Suppose you had been a club member for, oh, just for instance, let's say 15 years--and a very active one at that. And then, just for further instance, let's suppose you moved out of town. Maybe around 2600 miles...so it didn't make a whole lot of sense for you to continue to pay your $30 for membership.  But you had a continuing interest in club matters and people. Oops. Too bad for you. The MB is closed to you.

How much is this a hypothetical? This much: this is Carol Wood's reply to having received the NYCC eWeekly:

C Level Morning Laps in CP

Submitted by baverso on Thu, 02/22/2018 - 1:19pm

Hello! I'm new to NYCC. Are more Central Park lap rides added to the calendar as the season starts? I recall visiting the rides page as a guest about a year ago and observed many CP lap rides available.

Ideally, I'd like to join other riders who ride at 13-16 mph. I do see two listings for B-16, however pacelining skills are a prerequisite which I do not possess at this time. Thanks!

Stopped crossing Palisades on Seven Lakes Drive

Submitted by schaller56 on Thu, 02/22/2018 - 9:15am

Two of us were stopped about half-way up the hill on Seven Lakes after crossing the Palisades in the time-honored way (prohibited by the No Bikes sign before the traffic circle).  The officer did not check IDs or issue a summons.  His very clear message was "very dangerous, don't do it."

I'd like to get this problem fixed.  The Appalachian Trail crosses just to the south of Seven Lakes and it seems to be ok with the authorities to let people walk across there.  The roadway geometry is better -- you are crossing two lanes at a time, no on/off movements, and very straight line of sight.  Still, same principle at work -- it's a park, how about allowing recreational uses?

Transportation Alternatives plans a lobby day at the City Council to support a bill that all new street redesign projects use vision zero safety standards (such as protected bike lanes, pedestrian islands, and much more) unless the city gives explicit reasons why these standards are inappropropriate at a particular spot. As cyclists we need safe streets. Please come and help get a safer environment for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.

When: Tuesday, March 6, 2018, 9:30 - 3:00

Where: 250 Broadway, Manhattan

You do not have to stay for the whole day. Any participation is welcome. Numbers matter.

Ride Sign-up Glitch?

Submitted by jcraig280 on Mon, 02/19/2018 - 6:40pm

Looking at the March 4th Rockland Loop ride, where there's already about 6 folks signed up, yet for me, the "join now" is crossed off as it isn't 10 days in advance?
