B-17 CP Training Ride Co-Leader Wanted

Anyone Co-leader wanted, as we, for now, must be two to lead rides for NYCC. COVID guidelines. I would like to resume leading B-17 CP Training Rides, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Start time, 6:30, End time, 7:45. If you're not experienced, no worries, we were all newbies. Interested? Great workout, great fun all around.

Thanking our Volunteers with Free NYCC Gear - Claim Your Gear By 7/7

Submitted by leorar on Mon, 06/15/2020 - 11:51am
Leading a ride or joining the Escape New York Committee or rising to the rank of SIG or STS Captain all may be their own reward, but we still want to thank our 2019 volunteers with some free club gear.

If you led rides in 2019 or volunteered with NYCC or ENY in another way, please check your eligibility for free gear here. You’ll have to fill out the order form letting us know what gear you’d like by July 7th, 2020.

We don’t know yet, but we suspect manufacturing and international shipment will be slower than usual. Once the gear is ready, it may not be feasible to distribute it via local bike shops as we’ve done in the past.

A great, new idea for an ENY donation that could benefit us.

Donate to a dermatologist to give a skin abrasion to River Road, primarily the north half, west side of the road. Nah, we'll throw in another hundred. Make it the whole thing.

Bifocal solution for cycling Sunglasses?

Submitted by g.mcmullen on Mon, 06/08/2020 - 5:41pm

Hello cycling friends,

Maybe this has been discussed before. I'm seeking a sunglass solution for cycling with a bifocal prescription. Most makers I'm aware of will not make a prescription sunglass lens that is bifocal. Anybody out there found a satisfactory solution that is hardy enough for road cycling?

thanks in advance

Looking for a riding partner

Hi.

I'm looking for someone in my area of the city that would like to meet a couple of times a week to head out and ride for 2 - 3 hours.  I'm in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.  Ideally you are in Yonkers, Riverdale, Kingsbridge, or Inwood.

I'm not too psynced about riding the streets alone in the NW Bronx or Northern Manhattan for 30 mintes each way between my apartment and either the GWB or the South County trail.  Since there is less traffic, the drivers are going faster and as less attentive to driving.

I'm a slow B (15/16mph) rider, especially on a climb.  On a good day, the climb to the Alpine range station will take me around 15 minutes.

Looking for a ride co-leader for a recurring Wednesday ride, B17

The basic ride plan is something that I've been doing solo - ride to the Whole Foods in Closter, NJ (near, though not quite at, the intersection of Piermont Road & Closter Dock Road), spend 30-40 minutes grocery shopping, ride home with the groceries. I've been trying to leave home (West 110s) a little bit before 8 AM for arrival at the store at 9. (8-9 AM is a seniors-only hour.) Assuming I finish shopping around 9:30, I'm generally home again around 10:30 AM or a little after. The B17 pace becomes somewhat notional hauling groceries up the hill to Englewood Cliffs. Usually I climb Booth. ;-)

I'm not talking about not wearing them; I'm talking about just having them around their neck.

Answer (excluding those I rode with): 2 out of 47.

GWB report: Maybe 1 out of 8 were wearing masks. Needless to say not one of the speedsters darting in and out had one on.

As for my ride, my first in six months, who would think you could lose your legs yet gain 8 lbs. I have.
