MIPS technology

Submitted by EODonnell on Wed, 08/26/2020 - 12:37pm

We had a bad accident at mile marker 5.5 on 9W last weekend.  I won’t go into the gory details, but it was serious.  Alpine police were great.  An ambulance took forever to arrive, but they were great too.  Our injured rider hit his head, cracked his helmet.   Needs a new one.  Should we look only at helmets with MIPS technology?  Or is this just hype?  https://road.cc/content/feature/all-you-need-know-about-mips-252931

I'd love to join all the calendar events but they are all so early in the morning. Are there any afternoon or dusk riders/events?

bike trainer

Which trainer do you recommend? Not really looking for a smart trainer/ don't need endless data. I just want a good workout indoors when it gets colder. Love spin classes and am looking for an indoor workout to replace them.

Hudson River Greenway Gripe

Submitted by [email protected] on Sat, 08/22/2020 - 9:54pm

The work on the esplanade by the river just above 59th Street has diverted pedestrian traffic onto the greenway under the Miller Elevated Highway. Park officials, in their wisdom (not) have divided foot and bike traffic unevenly. Bikes need more room to pass each other in 2 way traffic, witness the current GW Bridge multiuser path. Most of us who have some degree of proficiency handling a bike will do just fine. My concern is passing the novice going the opposite way in this confined space. The barriers really need to be moved over to take room from the walkers and give cyclists more bandwidth. Getting behind a slow moving line of cyclists isn't horrible as the seciton is not very long. The issue is safety.

Hi,

I am trying to get into the NYCC kit store (https://ostroy.com/collections/nycc) to get a jersey (because why not?). But the site gives me an incorrect password error when I use the code on the kit store page. (NYCCne*********19). Is anyone else experiencing the same? Or Has the password changed?

Thanks,

Rexon

conflicting info from Amtrak regarding bikes on trains

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Sun, 08/16/2020 - 10:41pm

Not sure if the bikes on board section of Amtrak needs to be updated but recently a conductor on the Adirondack line (the run that runs up the Hudson River from NYC to Albany and places further north) upon my asking said they allow bikes provided the owner has a bike ticket ($20). This line wasn't listed as one that permits bikes (only a few do across the country). If the conductor was correct it will certainly open up more bike travel opportunities. Here are pics from that train:

Rick Jones, skier, frame-builder, bike shop owner (Road Runner Bicycles, Glen Cove NY) and all-around nice guy, passed away suddenly on Friday. 40 years old. No details. Sad.

Now that ENY is cancelled, what's gonna happen to the ENY kit (jersey) that we ordered? Are we gonna get the kit or a refund?
