"Sponeed" and "Baleaf" gear?

Submitted by isaacb on Mon, 12/14/2020 - 6:22pm

Hi:

I've seen cyclists on the road wearing kit with unfamiliar names like "Sponeed", "Baleaf" and a few others that slipped my mind.

A little research seems to show that these are Chinese manufacturers that primarily sell direct on Amazon. (Amazon appears to favore that sellers have trademarks, so "no name" products get names, even if they're just "ERKLEHNT.")

I will be in Palm Beach in January, February and March.  Any suggestions as to bike clubs in that vicinity?

The following text has been e-mailed to all persons who get e-mail blasts to riders:

As you all know, because of the need to observe our Covid-19 guidelines, we have a strict limit on the number of riders and leaders on a group ride. At present, the limit is six riders with one leader and 8 riders with two leaders. These guidelines are constantly being reviewed to make sure we are striking a reasonable balance between safety and the benefits of riding.

This system has worked well over the last several months and will likely have to be continued into next year, perhaps even longer.

But we have run into an issue with last-minute withdrawals from rides – someone withdraws from a Saturday ride late Friday night and so on.

Joan & I were fortunate to spend several days with Greg and his lovely wife, Kathy at a special small cycling event in May, 1998.

There was a photo of Greg & Joan sharing a ride on our tandem wearing wearing matching NYCC jackets on the cover of the NYCC print bulletin of May 1999 (copy available on our web site).  I  enjoyed sitting with the LeMond couple at several dinners.

An available view of primeval New York

Submitted by HSchiffman on Thu, 12/10/2020 - 8:13pm

If you want to have a view within the New York area of what people saw before Europeans arrived, on through colonial America, go down to the Battery.

Look at Staten Island and the water in front of it. With the exception of a handful of constructs by the hand of man, the silhouette of Staten Island is unchanged. It is pretty much as it has been since being revegetated after the last glacial retreat.

Looking to TEST RIDE a 51cm CAAD13 - Anyone have one?

Submitted by mledavis on Mon, 12/07/2020 - 2:09pm

Longshot:

A friend is good at finding used bikes for sale online, and I am looking for a decent deal on an upgrade to my somewhat old CAAD10 (I'd like disc brakes, 11 speed, and wider tire clearance).

The thing is ... my 54cm is not the recommended size, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around changing down to a 51cm. And since I'm looking for deals on used online, I won't be able to test ride.

I'm wondering if anyone in our community has a 51cm Cannondale I could ride around the block for size? I can meet you where you are. For Covid safety I can wear rubber gloves.

Any no hurry. :)
