A delivery bicyclist was killed by a city bus today after the two collided on the Upper East Side, authorities said.

The rider was heading eastbound on East 96th Street when he was fatally struck by an M15 bus traveling south on Second Avenue at 4:10 p.m., according to witnesses.

The bus driver kept going, apparently unaware he had hit someone.

Transportation officials and cops are still seeking the bus, said an MTA spokesman.

Aside from the M15, there are also out-of-service express buses that take the same road to get to their routes, the spokesman added.

This event should fill up quickly as it is part of the BUIMPS series.

Almost didn't ride today

Submitted by DWiener on Fri, 03/25/2011 - 4:04pm

It was 29F when I woke up this am, but the sun was shining. Debated whether to ride or not. By 11am and after half a pot of coffee it had warmed up to 35, and with the sun still shining I got into 3 layers of bike clothing and took off. Really glad I did. Took the greenway to the bridge, and then River Rd to Alpine and back. It turned out to be a really beautiful day for riding, and I was surprised that hardly anyone was out there.

B SIG START TIME CHANGE FOR TOMORROW: 9:30

Submitted by WWright on Fri, 03/25/2011 - 12:14pm

Tomorrow's B SIG ride to Ridgewood will start 30 minutes later than originally planned.  We will start at 9:30, not 9:00, in hopes of catching slightly warmer temps at start time.  The start location is the Ramble Shed, the same location as the last two weeks.

Please arrive early, so that you can be signed in and ready to go when class starts at 9:30.  We want to minimize the amount of time we stand around in the chilly air before hitting the road.

Since the weather will be cold, dress appropriately - you will probably want one more layer than you wore last Saturday, and if you have a pair of booties to wear over your cleats, wear them.

See you in the Park!

REI STORE COMING TO YONKERS MAY 2011, in NYC Fall 2011

REI Yonkers
49 Fitzgerald Street
Yonkers, NY 10710
Coming May 6, 2011

The store is part of a new mall near the Home Depot and Stew leonards on 87 (NYS Thruway).

I think there will be a Dicks store, Orvis and some other upscale options.
It does look like you can bike there once the roads are finished.

Needing a password to sign up for a ride????

Submitted by MBloomstein on Fri, 03/25/2011 - 11:09am

Why do we need a password to sign up for a ride if anyone is permitted to join a ride? Both, Tom and I keep having to get a new password to get into the system. Personally, I would love to keep things simple and get rid of the "Login" procedure.
