Route to Copake, NY

Submitted by Jim N on Mon, 03/28/2011 - 3:12pm

In a few weeks I will be riding up to Copake, NY from NYC.  Can anyone suggest a good route, sharing the road with as few cars as possible?

I am not averse to taking a train to get out of the metro area.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Lost and Found Item - Glove

Submitted by beekilroy on Mon, 03/28/2011 - 2:10pm

I found a biking glove on the NJ side of the GW bridge Saturday afternoon while riding with my C-SIG. It was lying on the ground just before the entry point to the bridge. As a couple NYCC groups crossed the bridge just ahead of my group, I thought perhaps the glove belongs to someone in one of those groups.

If you're missing a glove, please reply at this post with a description of the glove (right or left, brand name, color(s)) and we can figure out a way to match it back up with the other side of the pair.

Police, MTA Locate Bus that Killed UES Delivery Cyclist

Submitted by Mojo on Mon, 03/28/2011 - 12:33pm

Investigators have located the MTA Express bus and driver that struck and killed a delivery man on the Upper East Side late Friday afternoon, March 25. At around 4:00 p.m., 26-year-old delivery man Qi Ming Weng was caught in the rear tires of the Bronx express bus headed south and pronounced dead moments later.

Police reported that the bus driver, apparently unaware he had hit the victim, kept going. The New York Times reveals that the NYPD and MTA finally identified the bus and its driver early Saturday morning, March 26.

MTA spokesman Charles Seaton said police would conduct an interview with the driver, but that no criminality was suspected.

Bronx River Bike Tour, April 23

Submitted by [email protected] on Mon, 03/28/2011 - 7:22am

Did you know that the Bronx River is NYC's only true freshwater river?  The Bronx River was considered a source for NYC's drinking water in the early 1830's. By the end of the 1800's it was labeled "an open sewer." The river has made a comeback since the days of reckless dumping and now supports many forms of aquatic life like Alewife Herring and even a beaver named “Jose.”

Come be awed by its beauty and bike with NYC H2O and the Bronx River Alliance as we tour the Bronx River from its mouth on the Long Island Sound to its source in Valhalla.
