Wassaic to Sheffield cue sheet needed

Submitted by BMirell on Fri, 04/29/2011 - 8:51am

If anyone has a cue sheet from Wassaic to Sheffield, I would appreciate it if you could email it to me. I saw one in the Berkshires package from Southeast but not Wassaic.

Many thanks,

Bob

Meet the Gunks

Submitted by DHudes on Fri, 04/29/2011 - 1:19am

With 30,000 cyclists descending on NYC this Sunday, it's time to flee the city and head to Poughkeepsie for my annual "Meet The Gunks Ride". Please see my blog for a photo from a prior year and the route for this year then register for the ride.

N.B. Please, bring your lunch. The day is short enough without wasting everyone's time waiting to buy a sandwich in Ulster; it will be sunny mid-day, we plan to picnic at Minnewaska State Park. I recommend as well that you consider bringing a snack to eat on the train: personally, I buy a pastry from Zaro's at GCT for these trips and eat it  somewhere after Croton-Harmon.

Relying on instincts and almost getting nailed. A cautionary tale.

They are using real amunition out there. A ton or 2 of steel, plastic and rubber can quickly take you out.

We get by on our hunter/gatherer instincts. When approaching a red traffic light and see pedestrians crossing, even though we can't actually see oncoming traffic, we have the tendency to assume it is safe. Or at least I do. Till now.

This is akin to following another boat of similar size into an unknown harbor. The problem with boats is that you really have no idea of their draft. If it is twighlight and you are anxious to drop the hook while there is daylight, you might not identify the boat cutting across what the chart says is a shoal as a catamaran, drawing a foot, while you have a keel and need 4 feet. Haste can make waste. Or organ donors.

Replacing the Sidi's

Shoes have been with me on too many miles in the rain, including half of PBP 2007.  Sentimental value is nice but could use fresh pair and upgrade.

Suggestions on where to shop online or real store for best selection, including women's, and best prices?

Thanks.

Did you recently aquire a Lynskey R230 with S&S couplers?

Don from Lynskey mentioned a NYCC'er recently aquired one. I am also a Lynskey R230 owner and would love to see your S&S frame...any chance you could make time Thursday or Friday?

15 year old interested in riding - where to send him???

Submitted by RSchoenbohm on Wed, 04/27/2011 - 5:34pm

Nice kid, good runner, very interested in getting into riding. Son of a couple I know, neither of whom ride. I don't really know the family well enough to be involved and he'd not be into riding with an old guy like me anyway. Are there any good programs for young riders around? Any clubs that deal with the 15/16 year old set? It would be great to get him off to a good start.
