Bike repair needed - Gramercy Park

Submitted by tess119 on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 4:55pm

I may need a spoke or brake pad adjustment on a brand new bike.  Can't get back to the shop where I purchased it.  Any recommendations for a good shop in the Gramercy Park area?  Thank you.

Free bike rack for your car

Submitted by EWeiss on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 1:08pm

Hi fellow NYCC cyclists,

Valli and I are giving away (i.e. free) a bike rack that would fit on the back of most cars. The rack is functional, steel with rubber protective pads and straps, and made by R.A. Allen., Inc. in the USA. It can accomodate 2 -3 bikes. We are giving this rack away, since we have a roof rack that we use. and are no longer are in need of it. First come, first served. We just don't want to throw out a usable bike rack. We live in Brooklyn. Please contact Eden at 917-670-0501 to make arrangements ASAP to pick it up.

Thank you and wishing you safe and happy riding.

"Night of the Long Knives"

Submitted by nycezrider on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 12:48pm

Our Emergency Response Team was deployed as part of the traffic assistance at Whitehall Ferry/Bowling Green for this past Sunday's 5 Boro Bike Tour.

Apparently, Friday evening, April 29, the Volunteer Coordinator, various long term BikeNewYork staff and volunteers were summarily "executed."  Pretty drastic instead of canning them on Monday afterwards.

Looking for any analysis (inside info) as to what happened and why? Is this indicative of larger or festering issues within BNY?  I know they moved out of the 103rd St Hostel earlier this year and have cut back at least two of their traditional rides, one being the Wassaic Ride.  Now only two:  Hudson River Valley out of Poughkeepsie and the traditional Twin Lights Ride.

CT Challenge

Hi,

Is anyone doing the CT Challenge on July 30th?

Hey, what happened to the red light thread?

Submitted by CLam on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 11:14am

I am disappointed in another deletion of an entire thread. If the MB moderators feel a post is inappropriate, delete that post. The identities of the 3 principles were known contributors to the MB. A heated discussion about an important topic to the cycling community should not be taken off because (?) it’s unsightly? Free expression is a highly prized right that is not available in many parts of the world.

HS, a long time leader/route master, posted a thoughtful reply to my post on Sunday and I am disappointed that for some unknown (to me) reason. The whole thing has been deleted.

Please use more discretion in deleting post in the future. I thought we spent all this time and money to get a new website was so that we can have a better MB.

Submitted by CSloane on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 9:04am
I have an extra ticket to see The Normal Heart on Broadway on Sunday May 8 at 7PM. I saw the stunning original production at the Public in 1985. Want to go with me? The first person who makes a contribution to my Braking the Cycle page at http://btc9.kintera.org/nycraig of $150 or more gets the extra ticket!
