South Brooklyn bike thread
I have sacriligeously pulled up stakes from the UWS after a couple years and moved back to Brooklyn. I miss waking up at 8:45 to make 9am rides at Eleanor, but it's nice to have spaaaace again.
Anyway, figured I'd start a thread to canvas my newly-fellow Brooklyn people out there. To start with: what's your shop? I used to swear by Innvoation on 106th st (work done cheap and fast; made my bike shiny). Where to go now? Ride Brooklyn seems promising. Does Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens have a decent shop? Doesn't seem like it, based on google/yelp.
Oyster Bay Ride and Row is back on June 4 (June 18th rain date)
Oyster Bay Ride & Row is back for a third year, to give NYCC cyclists a taste of rowing in an 8-person racing shell with coaches from Sagamore Rowing Association.
Date: June 4, 2011
The ride is now posted and it requires sign-up and payment in advance.
We'll split into an A-20ish group led by George Arcarola and a B-17ish group led by Claudia Kulesh. We'll ride 25 miles to Oyster Bay, grab our lunch in town, and head over to the SRA's boathouse on Beekman Beach.

Interesting NYT article on sugars good or bad? fructose vs glucose.
"A cluster of new studies suggests that people who regularly work out don’t need to worry unduly about consuming fructose or other sugars. In certain circumstances, they may even find the sweet stuff beneficial."

Bike repair needed - Gramercy Park
I may need a spoke or brake pad adjustment on a brand new bike. Can't get back to the shop where I purchased it. Any recommendations for a good shop in the Gramercy Park area? Thank you.

Free bike rack for your car
Hi fellow NYCC cyclists,
Valli and I are giving away (i.e. free) a bike rack that would fit on the back of most cars. The rack is functional, steel with rubber protective pads and straps, and made by R.A. Allen., Inc. in the USA. It can accomodate 2 -3 bikes. We are giving this rack away, since we have a roof rack that we use. and are no longer are in need of it. First come, first served. We just don't want to throw out a usable bike rack. We live in Brooklyn. Please contact Eden at 917-670-0501 to make arrangements ASAP to pick it up.
Thank you and wishing you safe and happy riding.
"Night of the Long Knives"
Our Emergency Response Team was deployed as part of the traffic assistance at Whitehall Ferry/Bowling Green for this past Sunday's 5 Boro Bike Tour.
Apparently, Friday evening, April 29, the Volunteer Coordinator, various long term BikeNewYork staff and volunteers were summarily "executed." Pretty drastic instead of canning them on Monday afterwards.
Looking for any analysis (inside info) as to what happened and why? Is this indicative of larger or festering issues within BNY? I know they moved out of the 103rd St Hostel earlier this year and have cut back at least two of their traditional rides, one being the Wassaic Ride. Now only two: Hudson River Valley out of Poughkeepsie and the traditional Twin Lights Ride.
CT Challenge
Hi,
Is anyone doing the CT Challenge on July 30th?
