(UPPER WEST SIDE) — The debate over whether cyclists should be allowed to pedal on Central Park's pedestrian paths continues on Tuesday night.

Cycling advocacy group Transportation Alternatives is urging bikers to show up at Community Board 7's transportation committee Tuesday at 7 p.m. to voice support for opening crosstown pedestrian paths to cyclists.

Right now it's illegal for bikers to ride those paths.

Even if there's little chance of recovering the bike, it's at least worth trying. That being said, be careful everyone!!

I was riding yesterday when my rear derailleur cable broke. In 35 years of riding this had never happened to me. I seem to remember, on another ride this season, somone's DA 7900 derailleur cable broke. When mine broke, fortunately, I wasn't to far from the Tenafly bike shop. When I asked... they said that it is common because of the sharp bend in the new DA design (cable routing under the handlebar tape). They suggested that the DA 7900 derailleur cables be changed at least once per season. Obviously, I agree. So... DA makes our bikes look better with the new cable routing, makes them more fragile and eliminates the useful "what gear I am in thing" that could be installed on the externally routed cable.

The Tuesday FunEmployment ride is on as planed at 8:30 am but check the MB by 7:45 for a GO / NO GO based on impending weather.

Adirondack Ultra Cycling is running a fun-looking event: ride from Schuylerville (near Saratoga) to Montreal on August 5th, rest and relax in Montreal on Aug. 6th, and ride from Montreal to Schuylerville on August 7th.  It's 200 miles each way.  Details at http://www.adkultracycling.com/montreal/index.htm.

Anyone interested in sharing a ride? (I don't have a car). Anyone who's done this before want to share their thoughts about the ride?

Looking to buy a used bike to commute around town.  Need a bike to fit a woman 5' 9" or so (men's frame is fine).  Please let me know if you have one you're willing to part with at a reasonable price.  Thanks.

I'm going to be in rome for a few days and was hoping to rent a bike and do some nice rides out there. Does anyone have a recommendation on where I can rent a bike as well as some suggested rides?
