17 Jul Peekamoose Century Notes

Submitted by CCollins on Sun, 07/10/2011 - 5:15pm

Scott, Ron, and I are looking forward to leading the Peekamoose Century on 17 July.  Based on the outstanding rides we've had on the Poughkeepsie Hunter Loop and the Tour De Gunks, it promises to be a great day!

Here are some notes and clarifications to the ride listing:

Meetup and Departure: Meet at GCT @ 730 for the 747 to Poughkeepsie.  If you're meeting us at 125th st, please e-mail the ride leaders and let us know to look for you.  Please buy a roundtrip ticket so that eating, drinking, and boarding the return train at Poughkeepsie are "stress-free".

NY Times reporters apparently no longer cover TDF

Submitted by JJacobson on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 5:17pm

The natl newspaper of record has been using AP dispatches from the tour.  Juliet Macur who had been covering the Tour for the Times is now writing on drug issues for sports in general in the paper.  (BTW she would make an excellent NYCC meeting speaker).  Draw your own conclusions.

Bikes get central park shortcuts

Submitted by GYang on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 7:21am

Bicyclists trying to get legally from one side of Central Park to the other have long faced a challenge: because the park’s pedestrian paths are closed to cyclists, they have to either ride the looping vehicular drive south to 60th Street and then head north again, potentially going miles out of their way, or brave the narrow, crowded transverse roads.
