Amazing touring cyclist

Submitted by JReaven on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 7:45pm

On a ferry boat ride in Nicaragua to Ometepe volcanic island yesterday I met an amazing touring cyclist...a British guy nearing the end of his 5+ year trip around the world. "All he has left" is the ride from Nicaragua to Seattle, then a plane to Eastern Europe and thence on to England. Check out Rob's web site, see his tiger tan (a specialty of bald cyclists apparently), read about his excellent bike,  see his photos, and read his wisdom at at http://www.robsbikeride.com/

A kinder, gentler (read: shorter, flatter) ClimBathon tomorrow.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 6:28pm

The ride write-up states it starts at :09. Actually, starting at nine after midnight makes sense. But heat makes me crazy (detractors of mine, please note it's entirely too easy for you to say crazier); so we'll start at 9:00. And, who knows, maybe end at 9:09. But this will be a Sneden's-less, Bradley-less, Tweed-less, and maybe Ike-less non-ClimBathon. I think. Like life itself, always subject to change.

Pancake Ride - ON

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 4:27pm

Just a quick update for tomorrow:

No big changes, but a friendly reminder: definitely bring spare tubes and related tools, definitely bring plenty of water, and bring snacks or energy/electrolyte replenishment supplements to help sustain you on the ride out there. It'll be pretty warm in the morning on the way out... I've mentioned that it's possible to ride back (and I'm still considering that option for myself), but if the heat is too much by noon, I suggest everyone do the safe thing and hop on the train home. In any case, you'll have options.

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Sunday's Giro di Ragazze cancelled

Submitted by BHafkin on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 3:41pm

This ride is cancelled, not because of the heat, but because the leaders couldn't seem to coordinate their schedules. It's been rescheduled for August 21st.

Stay cool!

Piermont tomorrow

Submitted by MBruckner on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 1:23pm

Hi All,

I'm going to ride up to Piermont tomorrow. Leaving Brooklyn around 6am. Will plan to be back not later than 10a. Plan to ride at something like a A22 pace. If you want to join, you're welcome and we can catch up anywhere on the West Side or on the NJ side of the GWB. Paceline skills a must.

Crippling heat does not cancel.

July 23 kvetch ride (rail trail) is on

Submitted by LWintner on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 1:14pm

As of now, we are still planning to do this ride but please keep checking the Message Board just in case anything changes.

We want to emphasize what several other ride leaders have posted today.  Please make sure you have at least two water bottles or one water bottle and a camelback tomorrow.  Dress in light colors.  Use plenty of sunscreen and bring some along to reapply during the ride.

Ride to Piermont cancelled

Submitted by JCampos on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 1:01pm
To those who have signed up for this ride, I will be the first one to say I am extremely bummed out that I need to cancel this. The weather is just too damn hot. And there is no point being out there riding our bikes with the possibility of heat stroke among other things. I will definitely post this ride again when the weather is more tolerable. Stay cool everyone. And again, so sorry to cancel this ride.

Ride to Piermont

Submitted by JCampos on Fri, 07/22/2011 - 12:04pm

Hi, does anybody know how I can contact all the riders (via email) who have signed up for tomorrow's "Ride to Piermont".  I wanted to ask them if maybe we should either move the ride up to an earlier start (7am), or cancel it due to the heat advisory.

Does anyone have experience with exploreworldwide.com?

Thanks,
