Questions after seeing a flame-haired woman flying down Queens Blvd. on rollerblades, her arms raised triumphantly in the ai
I saw her Friday on Queens Boulevard at 40th Street. She was going as fast as the cars. It was electrifying. It also made me a little anxious. After all, Queens Boulevard is known as the Boulevard of Death.
I've seen Rob Marcus flying down the Boulevard, but his hands are on the handlebars, not raised above his head in exhiliration.
In Central Park, my perception is that the runners are in agony, the cyclists appear neutral or determined, and the rollerblades always seem happy.
What is it about rollerblading?
Are there rollerblades that a person with flat, wide feet could wear without being in extreme pain?

Thanks for enrolling in Jay's LoHud Ride for Aug 21. Because the NYCC all class ride has been postponed to Aug 21 due to rain on 8/14, Jay's ride is postponed to Sat 8/27. Jay's ride will also run on 9/3 ending that day at the NY Social off Riverside Dr. Hopefully you will enroll for one or both of these dates on the this site for it/them.
Cyclist arrested in Piermont road rage flap
According to the Journal News(8/13), a Manhattan man, Darren Nacht (apparently not a NYCC member) was observed by police letting air out of a parked car in the driveway of a Piermont home after a dispute with a motorist. He is due in village court on Sept. 14.
Help with Google Maps
I am directionally challenged so I could use some help or advice. I was looking for a route from the GWB to Mountain Lakes, NJ. I am trying to find a route so I won't get lost or end up on a road that is not suitable for biking. In looking at Google Maps (for bikes) there are three separate routes listed. They arre generally the same with some variations. Does anyone know how to interpret this. Is the first listed route the "safest"? How do I know which one of the choices would be best? I have come across this on several occasions where Google gives more than one choice, but have not been able to figure out which one is the most appropriate. Thanks for any suggestions. MIGb
August multi-day ride in Colorado
Hi !
This is on a very short notice but who knows ... I need to find 3 riders to put together a group for a supported ride from the 22nd to the 28th (dates and length are somewhat flexible) in Colorado (or in the great parks). Ideally: Equivalent level of B17 - A23 and ~ 60-100 miles a day. Budget (excl. airfare) seems to be from $1700 (camp) to $2800 (inns). I've looked several tour operators; Escape Adventures and Trek Travel seem to be pretty well rated. Alternatively, happy to get your advice if you know any other good tour operators or providers of self-guided tour services (i.e. would just need a shuttle to transfer my luggage from pint to point).
Let me know if ready to jump in on the last minute !
Thanks !

iPhone apps for road biking?
Hi all,
I heard there are quite good iphone apps for biking which functions as a GPS. So all you need to do is just to mount your iPhone to handlebar. Has anyone here tried that?
Thanks in advance,
Susan
