Beware Tweed Blvd

Submitted by SkipRalph on Thu, 08/09/2018 - 4:11pm

Fresh oil and gravel on Tweed today.  I rode the portion south of the intersection with Clausland Mountain Rd so I'm not sure about the northern part or Bradley.  The sharp left and steep downhill to 9W are particularly treacherous with cars spinning out while trying to come up that part.

Editing route in Ride with GPS

Submitted by HBorgeson on Tue, 08/07/2018 - 9:21am

I am trying to edit some of my routes on Ride with GPS, and it's not working the way it usually does. Specifically, the directional notations aren't available to edit. Did something change recently? Do I need to upgrade from the free account?

“Large growth in membership numbers”

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Tue, 08/07/2018 - 9:20am

I just got that phrase in a mailing sent on behalf of the club.

The Board has not provided a membership headcount in years. Even though the Bylaws obligate reporting that number.

Please let us know the basis of that claim. With dates and member roster counts.

Our Lunch and Learn topic on this Saturday's C13 and B15 rides to Pascack will be "how to change a flat in under 5 minutes."

Please join us to watch our expert, Ed Fishkin, show us how to do this.  Plus, our route to Pascack is pretty and SHADY (mostly).

After Cycling Politician is Killed, Louisiana Parish Seeks to Make Biking Harder

Submitted by Steve Vaccaro on Mon, 08/06/2018 - 11:33am

You can't make this stuff up!

From Streetsblog USA:

The Louisiana parish where a prominent local politician was killed while riding his bike has taken the wrong lessons from the tragedy.

Baton Rouge Metro Councilman and cyclist Buddy Amoroso was killed by a distracted driver on June 30, but West Feliciana Parish is poised to punish bike riders rather than undertaking broader measures to protect them.

Bronx, Broadway bike lane

Submitted by mhsimkin on Mon, 08/06/2018 - 5:11am

I haven't had a chance to ride the newly completed bike lane on Broadway in the Northern Bronx yet.  However, I drove along Broadway yesterday to see how far the bike lane runs.

It starts about 1 block north of the West 242 #1 station and stops about 2 blocks short of the city line around West 261st street.  The bike lane is on the eastern side of the street and is bi-directional.

.
They dug a trench (already on Google maps) to connect the 2 bodies of water. Looks like a major project that can take months to finish. The detour west (left turn northbound at the first signage) seems to be shorter.
