Escape New York 2018 will be the best one yet
Because it’s the last one.
I’m kidding. I have no knowledge that anyone plans to discontinue ENY.
I have your attention, though. And I have a feeling that we will be saying bye-bye to a contemporaneous thread, so I wanted to share something in a new thread in order to support the mission of the club and its members.
We always have the option of continuing to run ENY in order to generate profit to be donated to charity.
If we want the event to be successful, we need to have an open discussion about how to rescue it. Recent ENY events have barely broke even. People did work hard but attendance has been consistently off since the early 2010s.
From the Board: Eden Weiss’s Resignation
On behalf of the Board, I regret to announce that Eden Weiss has resigned as President of the Club for health and other personal reasons. His resignation is effective immediately.
Pop Quiz: distance estimate
You are on "River Road" under the GW Bridge going south heading back to Manhattan. You look across the river and see the Hudson River Greenway on the other side. If you ride over the bridge, take the left on Fort Washington Avenue, down 181st St, cross the parkway on the overpass @182nd St, then down the greenway, what is your estimate of the total distance to the path under the GW Bridge on the Manhattan side?
Sure you can look it up. But see how close you come to the distance on the link below:
Piermont Community Market finally reopens today
sandwiches & variety of foods, one bathroom but no outdoor seating. It was needed--We wish them good luck
Midweek Getaway to State Line Lookout - CANCELLED
Rain
Wheel Truing
Need a good recommendation for a shop to have a wheel trued. Prefer Manhattan. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!
ENY Commercialization
I am appalled at the commercialization of Escape New York. The constant emailing, Instagram posting, Facebook posting exhorting people to buy a jersey before the price goes up, or to sign up for the event before the price goes up, brings to mind Crazy Eddie, Johns Bargain Stores, Ed McMahon on the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore, and of course of late Ron Popeil’s huckstering.
GWB Walkway Hours
The PA web site states that the GWB Walkway opens at 6am.
Is that correct?
How bad is the line waiting to get up the ramp on the NY side at 6am?
Thanks
To the NYCC Board - Information request and some questions
Thanks for doing the great volunteer job y’all have been doing this year, along with adjusting and adapting to Board changes in 2018. We appreciate your hard work and the hours you all put in. Give yourselves a raise!
We’ve been catching up on the well-documented Board meeting minutes and had some questions, hopefully not to create extra work. Eden, hope you are felling better and recovering well.
NYCC Race team smoked Fort Lee today
Three of us rode to Ft. Lee to watch our NYCC race team race the Ft. Lee crit. They are awesome. Our guys did well in the Cat 4 and Cat 3 groups and our women were simply awesome in the women's Cat 4. There were a bunch of other NYCC'ers there besides us. It was a perfect day for a bike race and great fun to support our fellow members.
Congratulations Race Team
