Speaking of the NY Times...

Submitted by EMarks on Thu, 04/05/2012 - 6:11pm

...yesterday there was a multimedia (slides with voiceover) article on cyclists vs dogs and their owners in Central Park. Plenty of vitriol and generalizations on both sides but no conclusions drawn; today there's no trace of it, it simply can't be found, makes me wonder if I really saw it, or if anyone else did. It made everyone look bad, musta pissed someone off big time to get taken down so fast.

Garmin 705 vs 800 is this a worthwhile upgrade or purchase?

Submitted by Rmarcus on Thu, 04/05/2012 - 4:30pm

I do NOT own a 705 or 800 but am considoring getting one or the other.

I do see 705 used on Ebay in the $200 range with the full bundle maps, cadence and HR monitor etc.

The 800 for the full package can be gotten for about $520 on sale from a few different reliable online US bike distributors.

I really like the mapping and cuesheet aspect and of course knowing how fast I go, mileage and using it as a training tool.

But lets be honest, I can read a cue sheet and my basic cyclometer while not storing details does give me basic info.

So why should I buy a 800 and is it all that or should I just get the 705?

FYI, I always suffer from buyers remorse. Bblame it on my Jewish Mom, guilts a terrible thing.

2012 USPS 'forever' Bicycle postage stamps

Submitted by AGarcia on Thu, 04/05/2012 - 2:11pm

http://bikeportland.org/2011/07/22/us-postal-service-unveils-bicycling-forever-stamps-56694

Although dated last year (2011), the stamps will be released around Thurs. June 7, 2012.
More info: http://beyondtheperf.com/stamp-releases/bicycling

Perhaps someone can embedded stamp images in a subsequent post. The stamp designs appears bland, but at least it's cycling. They depict: a) young kid on a bike with training wheels b) commuter or touring cyclist c) time trial cyclist and d) BMX cyclist.

Bar to watch Paris-Roubaix?

Submitted by edeuser on Thu, 04/05/2012 - 11:53am

Anyone know of a good place to watch Paris-Roubaix on Sunday?  NBC Sports (via Universal Sports) has live coverage of the latter portion of the race from 9am-11am.  But I'm hoping to find a bar that might have delayed coverage of the full race. Any suggestions are appreciated!

What, dear friends, will it take to make you pissed off?

Shouldn't we be supporting Time's Up?

Of course, our members are notoriously uninvolved in improving the lot of cyclists and cycling in the city, preferring to leave that to others as they just wanna ride their bikes. But imagine 2000 postcards or letters from our 2000 memembers addressed to:

Leipheimer's crash

Submitted by HDershowitz on Thu, 04/05/2012 - 9:18am

“I could be dead, for sure. I flew into Bilbao on Saturday night before the Vuelta al País Vasco. I wanted to get here early, relax and go for a ride. I was returning from a light ride, about two hours, at about 12:30. I was using my (smart phone) to find some good roads. I was about five kilometers from the hotel. At that point, I was on a big road, with a big shoulder. There was a white line and I was over on the far right side of the shoulder. I was just riding along. I didn’t hear or see anything. The impact was straight in from behind.
