Climateride
Dear Fellow Siggies and NYCC members,
Our love of cycling and the environmment has led us, Magary Aime, B-18 Siggie, and Katia Celifie, B-16 Siggie, to become Climate Riders. For the second time in less than 12 months we will be cycling over 300 miles in 5 days in an effort to raise awareness to environmental issues. We would like to ask for your help in this endeavor. Our mission is to raise $ 4,800 collectivelly for worthy beneficiaries such as Rails to Trails, Transportation Alternatives and 1% for the planet amongst others. Your contributions will help us achieve our fundraising goals, so please help your fellow member/siggie to ride in Climate Ride.
Sunday Night in the Berkshires
At the risk of opening a very large sized can of worms, I'm now taking song requests for the Berkshires Sunday night dinner. I can't guarantee that all requests will be played but I'd love to get a sense of what people want to hear and dance to.
Thanks!!
NYCC May 8th PROGRAM to START EARLIER, at 6:45 PM
We are starting the May 8th (next Tuesday) club B-SIG Recoginition Program a little earlier, at 6:45PM, due to the significant amount of SIGGIES to be recognized, an exciting presentation about Gran Fondo NJ and our raffle, which will be highlighted by one lucky NYCC member winning a brand new Jamis Xenith Endura Comp road bike. Gran Fondo NJ and Jamis Bicycles have generously agreed to sponsor this month's meeting.
Cycling Shoes Recommendation
Does anyone have any recommendations for men's cycling shoes for wider feet? Anything in the 150-250 range?
Thanks
top-mounted vs. rear-mounted bike racks
Hi all-
I'm thinking of buying a rack and was curious about your thoughts on the benefits/burdens of both systems (top vs rear).
Bike Month deals for cyclists
Today, May 1....La Crepe C'est Si Bon at 115 Eldridge Street is giving out free crepes if you arrive by bike.
ladies — saddle advice?
I'm a slow and steady rider who's on a Dolce with its original Specialized gelissimo saddle, which is a size 155. I've been fitted by Paul at Signature and am very, very happy with my ride/comfort — except that after about 40 miles I start experiencing pelvic bone/sitbone pain. This weekend I went to a shop that has the Specialized ass-o-meter and my sitbones measure 130; the sales rep recommended I downsize to a 143 saddle.
The things I hear about saddle fit are:
- Measure your sitbones and choose a saddle accordingly
- Bear in mind that ladies generally need a wider saddle
- Use a firmer saddle for longer rides (is this to avoid numbness from sinking into a gel saddle and pinching nerves?)
- Wider saddles are better for long rides
