Question about Pactimo (NYCC apparel) fit

Submitted by RRosenthal on Fri, 08/23/2024 - 7:50pm

The new Kids Ride Club kit is not being made by Pactimo but the manufacturer is using Pactimo's size chart.

Question: If you've bought Pactimo (NYCC) jersey/bibs/shorts, does the size you ordered comform with what you regularly order? Or for a best fit of Pactimo, would you order a size larger or a size smaller than you usually do?

Jay Jacobson

Submitted by HEskenazi on Thu, 08/15/2024 - 11:36pm

As I left the ice cream social on Tuesday evening, I was actually thinking to myself, I haven't seen Jay in a while. I think I'll go up and visit him next week.

It just shows you, once again, that you should not put things off until it is too late.

Jays’ warmth, caring, friendliness, leadership and stories will be missed.

Heart  felt condolences go out to Joan, his children and grandchildren, all of whom I’ve known. Jay, I trust you will make it to heaven on your bike. RIP. You will be missed as a lot of members who've known you and will think about you.

Haverstraw-Ossining ferry now running on weekends

Submitted by HBorgeson on Mon, 08/12/2024 - 7:36am

Twice recently I've had the pleasure of taking the ferry from Haverstraw to Ossining on a weekend. The west location is on the south side of Haverstraw by the Admiral's Cove development, just off Bike Route 9. In Ossining, the dropoff is right by the train station -- and both times I've caught a south-bound train with perfect timing. The ferry is run by NY Waterway and costs $4.50 with or without a bike. It runs approximately every hour and is a beautiful ride. I recommend purchasing tickets via the NY Waterway app; the ticket booth is slow and not always open.

River Road R.I.P. 1940-2024

Submitted by yogacycle on Sun, 08/11/2024 - 1:26pm

The last storm completely destroyed  our dear River Road (with the exception of the Alpine climb). Numerous large trees and retaining walls down as well as severly buckled pavement (like the "Forbidden Hill" that was destroyed several years ago). I really doubt it will be open for years... Definitely blocked off. On a road bike today, not very pleasant. Gravel bikes could ride it but there will be numerous portages. Don't kill the messenger!

Anyone Riding in D2R2?

Submitted by George_S on Fri, 08/09/2024 - 9:51am

Just wondering if any other NYCC'ers are planning to ride in next week's D2R2 graveler up in Deerfield, MA?

Currently registered for the 100k with about 599 other riders!  Thinking of switching to 95k to avoid the crowded route and somewhat shorten ride distance and elevation.

15 minutes video explaining Metro North

Submitted by [email protected] on Sun, 08/04/2024 - 5:05pm

For those who might consider train access to the open country beyond, this video covers the topic well.

Not everyone understands the potentials of using Metro North. As cyclists originating in the city, we are able to go from one line to another, or, when weather is questionable, along one line.

Consider that our full potential includes LIRR and NJ Transit. Thus, excepting bad weather, New York is one hellava cycling town. And we do it without having to own a car.
