Any recommendations for a good bike fitter in Brooklyn?

Eastern Bergen County's Magnificent Alpine Hills rarely seen on NYCC rides

Submitted by JJacobson on Sun, 11/21/2021 - 3:48pm

I have done over 1,000 NYCC rides and have never seen them until today when our daughter, Mindy showed them to us!  Some hills appear to have 10% climbs.  Get to see it soon during gorgeous foliage !

paved:  Closter Dock downhill from  9W, R on Anderson, R on Buckingham, L on Old Quarry, R on Autumn.

Unpaved:  Straight on Anderson which ends onto unpaved path, continue Boy Scout camp, to 9W

Mark Gelles

There is an obit in today's Times for Mark Gelles age 72 which mentioned bicycling.  I assume he was our former club member and officer.

He exemplified the term "nice guy"  Some years ago my daughter was on a NYCC ride and couldn't keep up.  He dropped back to ride with her and to give her encouragement

Learning to ride a bike in NYC:

The article is more whimsical than instructive for our members.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/18/nyregion/bike-riding-coach-therapy.html?

A bike instructor is referred to but not named who has the chutspah to charge $475 for a 90 min. class. Shame on her! And on anyone who would pay her that.

The Readers' Comments speak of an org., Trips for Kids, that seems to parallel in Manhattan Ed Fishkin's Kids Ride Club and which the NYCC might well want to acquaint itself with.

Rent My Alan Premium Bike Box

Submitted by GorillaSnax on Sat, 11/20/2021 - 12:00pm

As people start to travel more, maybe people want to travel more with bikes!?

I should think so. Don't buy a bike box if you don't have to - use mine! It's located in Park Slope.

For rent: Alan Premium Bike Box - $25 for a weekend or $50 for a week.

I'm 6'3" and my Look 595 fit just fine (integrated seat post). A taller gent with a Parlee (disc brakes, even) used the box to get to and from another country. Believe it. My landlord uses it to get out to Los Angeles and he's not yet evicted me. You may know him. He's a pretty active NYCC guy. He'll tell you. It's a box for bikes!

Submitted by jcraig280 on Tue, 11/16/2021 - 11:29am

Just checking, is the mentioned 10% off for club members mentioned here https://nycc.org/raceteam/sponsorsandperks still valid?

Trek (which used to be Danny's a couple years ago or so) doesn't appear in the pdf list reached here:  https://nycc.org/member-content/member-discounts

NYCC Logo and Kit redesign

It’s taken a while, but I think our Club has woken up from Covid-19. Not that we’ve put it entirely behind us, but we’ve learned to live with it while going about (most of) our daily lives. To continue the waking up metaphor, we’ve stumbled into the shower, maybe shaved, tended to our teeth and are staring into the closet.
