Bike storage in balcony

Submitted by rafaelreno on Sat, 01/08/2022 - 12:30pm
Hello NYCC members,
I recently moved to the US and am not familiar with cold weather.
I have left my bike and smart trainer on the balcony covered with a raincoat. With the drop in temperature I have doubts if it can cause any damage to the frame, electrical and mechanical components.
I would like to know if I need to store it inside the apartment, reinforce the coverage or the equipment supports this condition without prejudice.
Thanks!

Best Puncture Proof Gravel Bike Tires

Submitted by JBlackburn on Fri, 01/07/2022 - 1:53pm

The tires on my new gravel bike are 700x40 Kenda BoosterPro GCT, which Kenda says is their most puncture proof gravel tire, not tubeless.  Riding around the city on roads, bike paths, and greenways, I am getting alot more flats than I would get on my road bike.  The tube punctures are in different places each time so it is not a wheel issue.

Anyone know why this might be happening?  Any suggestions for a gravel tire that gives gatorskin-like puncture resistance?  Would tire inserts help for this?   Thanks in advance for any advice.

At it's January meeting, the Board voted to update the ride guidelines related to COVID-19. They are as follows:

1. Do not participate in any NYCC ride if you are feeling ill—and certainly if you have recently tested positive for Covid-19.

Off Road

Submitted by TomBlake on Mon, 01/03/2022 - 3:21pm

Joined recently, attracted by the two "gravel" rides I saw listed and hope to see more.

If anyone wants to shoot up the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail to the dam, or across the bridge to Nyack Beach park, let me know.

Excellent Description Of River Road On Upcoming We Ride (Early) For Pancakes Ride

Submitted by YoniKochavi on Mon, 01/03/2022 - 1:44am

Kudos to the ride description's author.

I feel that many of us switch from over and underplaying the difficulty of River Road and fail to give advance notice of the fluid road conditions and quirky sections. Jacqueline Gikow has written a good description of the route and prepped riders  for a positive experience.

Hilltop Bicycles UWS - (post Renaissance)

Submitted by RFranco on Sat, 01/01/2022 - 2:00pm

Hi all,

Has anyone tried Hilltop Bicycles on Columbus Avenue which is in the old Renaissance Bike Shop space? I am replacing a crankset and want to give them a try. But want some feedback before I go there. If the feedback is negative, I am unsure where to go. I don't want to go to Toga, Trek W 72, or Master Bike due to past experiences. FYI - I am located on the UWS and don't want to shlep too far from home. Maybe Innovation on W 106th Street?

Thanks!!!

Happy New Gear

If you race in age-graded races, Happy Birthday. Just like race horses, you're a year older today.

Remember to reset your bike computer back to 0000 miles. On some units that may be by pushing a small pin into an equally small opening with a metal "button" on the back.
