Wheels Stolen | Need New Wheels - Advice?

Submitted by JLin on Sun, 03/31/2013 - 6:28pm

Hi Everyone,

I had my wheels stolen on Saturday (right before the SIG, I was crushed :*-(  ), and now need new tires, wheels, and a cassette. I'm relatively new to the whole bike parts market so if any shopping-savvy members could give me advice about where to go / how to find deals, that'd be great.

Thank you!

Jenny

Changing the Palisades ridgeline view....

News from the Fort Tryon Trust and the Natural Resources Defense Council about LG's plan to construct a 143 foot high office building across the Hudson in an area previously zoned for a 35 foot cap on height.....dramatically changing the Palisades ridgeline view.

Please patronize the Community Market in Piermont. Here's why....

The market is owned by a lovely Korean couple, Sonny and Doug. Their son, Chris, works there. They bought it around five years ago and have worked damn hard these five years. If you don't know it, in warm weather they put out a tray of soft paper towels in ice water for cyclists to cool off by wiping their faces.

...and speaking of wiping, they were all but wiped out by the hurricane. I was there today for the first time since last fall and learned the water devastated the store, reaching thigh high. They, reasonably enough, had no flood insurance. Who would expect the river to come inland and with such ferocity?

Five years of hard work--knocked out. Ruined. Gone.

NYCC members are warmly welcome to join Bicycle Club of Philadelphia at our annual Spring Weekend in the Susquehanna Valley of PA, May 3-5, 2013.  We'll be staying in Danville, PA, located between the charming college towns of Lewisburg (Bucknell) and Bloomsburg.  Scenic cycling on quiet country roads, passing farms and covered bridges.  This Spring Weekend is an all-inclusive package: Two nights (Friday & Saturday) at the Quality Inn of Danville, Tour packets with cue sheets & maps, Group rides with leaders,

I am going to suggest to the NYCC Board that they ask the powers that be to PLEASE install two permanent Port-a-Sans on the New Jersey side of the bridge, just before getting off the path.  I spoke to a REALLY NICE transit authority officer today who said he really doesn't want to have to "fine" cyclists for doing so, but they are going to start.  The path is used by many different groups, including young kids with their parents, and other folks who really don't need/want to see that happening.  Forget that there's a public restroom 1/4 mile north of there; it's just not nice!  Please pass this on to your groups when arriving in Jersey if someone wants to use the path as a potty.  Thanks.  (Okay, here goes all the nasty banter, I k

types of bicycles permitted on NYCC?

Submitted by chfong on Fri, 03/29/2013 - 11:25am

Hi,

What types of bicycles are permitted on the NYCC, and in particular SIGs rides?? Definitely road bikes ( such as Trek Madones, Cannondale CAAD10, Scott FOIL, Parlees, etc.. )  without aero bars are allowed. What about other bikes such as:

A very dramatic announcement re: the ClimBathon.

It's back! Saturday. Uncharacteristically early. Ride just listed*--may not be up yet: starts late (10AM) to let the day's warmth seep into the day. As the write-up says, the geriatric leader (0 miles for 2013 and that goes back to late October; 0 mins. indoor training; see the first sentence at http://www.nytimes.com/1991/02/10/news/sunday-outing-breathtaking-scenery-on-a-hudson-bicycle-trip.html) turns out to be a year older than he was last year when he was already superannuated--a nice way of saying damn old. Conclusion: Come mindful you'll be waiting for him atop at least five climbs and likely elsewhere.
