Scouting Rides in Central NJ
If anyone is interested, I'm planning on doing a scouting ride in Central NJ on April 6th or 7th and could use some company.
The ride will include about 15 miles on the D&R Canal, and 30 miles on pavement, roughly B15 pace. Email me if you're interested.
Anyone training for the St.Croix Half-Marathon on May 5th? Looking for some riding partners weekends/evenings B/16-18
Hi,
I'm new to NYCC.org and cycling in general (have spent most of the winter training indoors). I'm training for my first triathlon and am looking for other cyclist (B16-18 ish) who are also strapped for time and looking to fit in rides in the mornings, evenings and weekends. I am looking to do several 50+ mile rides as well as some 25-40 milers over the next month, will some focus on hills/climbs. I live in lower manhattan but could meet up anywhere.
If you're interested, please let me know :)

Sunday ... I’m riding past Cooper Square on the way to Grand Central.
Bike rentals in Maui
I have an opportunity to cycle up Haleakala next month. For this a bike is essential. (Duh!) The online reviews of bike shops on Maui read like bipolar personalities. (Why do is suspect a combination of mutual sabotoge and self-promotion?)
It appears that I will do this solo. When I attempted Mauna Kea a few years ago logistics and a kinked cable resulted in a very late start. I want to get my ducks in a row for this one. Unpaved road sections of significant grade made the use of a mtn bike correct. And it was certainly very good for the descent. Haleakala appears paved and a gentle grade. A road bike might be the appropriate instrument. Does anyone have direct experience in renting a bike for this ascent/descent?
3/29 Good, Very Good Friday casual A ride.
Just submitted a last minute ride for this Friday, 3/29. Casual A ride to Nyack. It is often said that "the simplest ideas are the best". Up 505, back 501 - about as simple as it gets. Leaving 9:00 AM from the boathouse. Kinda casual A19/20 pace.
Tuesday Morning RR, No Go Week 3
We're not riding tmrw.
Better lighting happy to report
One piece of good news- the lighting on the greenway from 59th heading north under the West Side Highway is hugely improved. It used to be very dark at night, but now is well lit.
Vote for the Next Top Makers
There are some interesting and some not so interesting cycling applications:
MyBell. What would you record as your "bell" sound?
SeBak Safety System. I still will be looking behind me.
Bike Computer. Won't put Garmin out of business.
Fishbike. Maybe the the fish can help me get up those hills.

Gent-Wevelgem TWC?
Anyone know whether the European Cycling Classics will be broadcasted through TWC? Was hoping to catch the snowy finish of Gent-Wevelgem today, but can't find the right channel... :(
