Bike Repair App Free for Today

Submitted by RSchmon on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 8:47pm

A friend just made me aware that this iphone app on "bike repair"--and which is normally $4.00, is being offered today through "Apps Gone Free" for free.  Here is the app which I've just downloaded and it looks terrific:

I understand the "apps gone free" site offers a different app on a daily basis for free--so it's possible this app might go off the "free" list tonight or tomorrow.

I've got a bad feeling about this

Submitted by velofellow on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 7:59pm

For the last couple of days, channel 5 news has been promoting a story about "outlaw bikers" that is going to air tonight on the 10:00 PM news.  The promos give the impression they're talking about Hell's Angels types, but you don't see people during the promo, just some asphalt.  I have a bad feeling that the report will be about bicyclists, though I hope I'm wrong.

East River Park has its (inner) path back!

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 6:44pm

Here's a picture from last week showing the condition of the cycling and running path on the inner (FDR-drive) side of East River Park, a significant segment of the much-underbuilt East River Greenway. You may remember this path - and particularly this segment - as being a combination of great lake puddles and moon surface. A utility construction project in the late winter forced the excavation of the path from around E10th street (the boundary of an earlier, successful repaving project) down to Grand Street. The roadbed is now fully rebuilt and freshly asphalt-paved.

Breezy Point

Submitted by DLitsky on Mon, 04/29/2013 - 12:59pm

I would like to address with you the issue of cycling in Breezy Point.  In the past, residents there have been hostile to cyclists and harrassing cyclists with their private security force.  Given the devasation there due to Hurrican Sandy, they have to be getting public money - federal, state, city - to repair their community.  It seems to me that unless they are going to open their community to the public and stop harassing cyclists, they are not entitled to public money.  I have asked both the NYCC and  Transportation Alternatives to take up this cause.

Stacy Young's Ride to Fight Leukemia--- with help for B-STS

Submitted by SYoung on Sun, 04/28/2013 - 11:59pm

On June 2nd, I will again be participating on a 100 mile bicycle ride in Lake Tahoe, Nevada -to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

This year I am "training" with the B-STS. Thanks Dave and Victor for the rides with all the hills! I will definately be in shape for my ride!

This year I am riding to honor my cousin Gwen who lost her fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2012.  She was my inspiration for joining this fight and pushing for every mile up every hill.

BMX saddle?

Submitted by NWeissman on Sat, 04/27/2013 - 9:34pm

Cheap ($39+), light (175G), in this case, green.  Definitively un-Brooks, but the shape looks right.  Any reason not to use these on a road bike?
