Physical Therapy NYC
Hi everyone - Does anyone know of a great Physical Therapist in NYC around Grand Central or Penn Station? I am recovering from a pelvic break with some lower back soreness and am not clicking with who I have now. I am looking for a group or person who will spend solo time with me for the hour that I book and not work with 3 people at one time.
Of course my goal would be to get back to full health, physical fitness and on the bike asap.
Any advice or referrals would be appreciated. Thank you
Going through airport security with metal
Am traveling shortly and have had surgery on my clavicle....titanium plate and screws. Any advice on what to expect going through security? Smooth sailing or potential hold ups. Thanks in advance.
NYCC and Escape New York - Quo Vadis? (w/ questions from Derek)
Many thanks to whoever updated the posted minutes of Board meetings: http://nycc.org/the.archives The January 2014 minutes are now up, although links to October 2013 and November 2013 both lead to the September 2013 minutes.*
Might someone clarify the relationship between NYCC and Escape New York? The January 2014 minutes refer to "a memorandum of understanding to 'clarify and strengthen the relationship between the NYCC and Escape New York,'" which includes "a statement of understanding that in consideration of use of club infrastructure [...] ENY will contribute 10% of net proceeds back to the NYCC."
Tomorrow's NYCC Club Meeting
As if this meeting needs any more advertising...
I hearby invite each of you reading this to attend the NYCC montly meeting at Annie Moore's tomorrow evening.
There... that should do it...
Hooray for modern technology
A stress fracture of the foot makes it painful to walk, but cycling's okay thanks to the stiff carbon fiber soles on cycling shoes. If only I could walk around town in my cycling shoes, then I wouldn't have to wear the silly looking open-toe surgical shoe. But hey, I'll just call it a new fashion trend.
SIG registration question
I know SIG registration does not go live until Feb 12. Where will the link to register be once it does go live? I recall last year the link was more apparent in advance of the sign-ups.
Thank you to all who worked on the beautiful new SIG pages, and especially the comparison table. That's great! Sorry for my question; I'm guessing not everyone can get to Tuesday's meeting. Looking forward to hearing more at that time.
Bike Rental
Hi there,
I'm visiting NY for a long weekend next week and would like to train Sat and Sun. Couple of questions:
Are the conditions in CP good/ safe enough? What are the temperatures likely to be?
Can anybody recommend any bike rental shops where I can hire a half decent 105/Ultegra spec road bike? I'm staying on West 54th close to the park.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Fundraiser - 2014 Kids Ride Club
To all our friends, Please come and join us at the Special Fundraiser for the 2014 Kids Ride Club. The Kids Ride Club was founded and is managed by Dr. Ed Fishkin, a NYCC Lifetime Member(our Hall of Fame)18 years ago and is still going strong. This club takes kids ,approximately 7-20, on rides every Friday throughout the summer months, on weekend days in the spring and fall, throughout the city. Each ride has a "cultural destination" (e.g. a museum, Coney Island, Gracie Mansion). The graduation ride is ENY. The Kids Ride Club is in partnership with Recycle-A-Bicycle. Bikes and helmets, etc. are provided for the kids.
I observed how one cyclist made it across the GWB yesterday
As I was driving across yesterday, traffic nearly came to a halt in the right 2 lanes. This is an assumption so take it for what it's worth, however, it seems a lone cyclist really wanted to get across the bridge and discovered that the bike path was closed.
Tapping his sense of daring and adventure, he proceeded to ride his bike across in the right lane. He made it all the way across the bridge with one caveat. For the first third of a mile or so he was on his bike and the remainder in the back of a NJ State trooper's SUV. I passed him as they were loading his bike into the back of their car.
The moral of this story is...
Don't dwell on a problem getting in the way of your dream...just cross that bridge when you come to it.
