There is a thing called a bicycle fender

Submitted by HSchiffman on Sun, 02/23/2014 - 7:36pm

But they were rare as hen's teeth this afternoon on the West Side Bike Path, what with the run off of snow melt.

However, I did see a lot of brown streaks up the center of backs of jerseys on bicycle riders.

Ancient wisdom: One fender will save numerous jerseys from indelible stain. And you can't wear the fender out.

Crowds tomorrow?

Submitted by kbarch on Fri, 02/21/2014 - 8:33pm

How crowded do we think the greenway and the parks will be tomorrow?  I haven't been on the road since superbowl weekend and haven't managed to do more than an hour at a time on the stationary bike since then, so I'm SUPER EAGER.  I would join the "Quick and Early Ride to the Piermont," and I'll be up in time, but having slacked off so much lately, I'll be happy to do just three or four laps of the park...  Just hope I get there before the crowds.

Bear mountain/upper Rockland Co. conditions

Submitted by edeuser on Fri, 02/21/2014 - 11:21am

Anyone been up to Bear or across the Bear Mtn bridge recently?  I'm curious how bad the roads are.  I know Perkins was technically "closed" but still passable by bike a few weeks ago, though we've had quite a lot of snow since then.  How about Orchards/little tor/etc?

"Breaking Away," perhaps the best cycling film yet made, is playing at Film Forum, 7:30pm Monday, 2/24: http://www.filmforum.org/movies/more/breaking_away

"(1979, Peter Yates) Great, we’ve graduated, so now what?, gripe Dennis Christopher, Dennis Quaid, Jackie Earle Haley, and Daniel Stern (in his debut), as they hang around an abandoned quarry — but then Christopher discovers Italian-accented bicycle racing, to the befuddlement of his ex-stonecutter dad Paul Dooley. Shot in Bloomington, Indiana and based on a true story by Oscar-winning scripter Steve Tesich. Approx. 101 min. DCP.

River Road/Henry Hudson Drive and 9w toward Piermont

Submitted by mgeller1 on Thu, 02/20/2014 - 7:29pm

Was hoping to hear if it's passable on a road bike. Hoping to head out on Saturday after being stuck in doors since Feb 2nd.

Also is 9W clear?
