Short Video of My Ride To Piermont Yesterday

Submitted by RSchmon on Wed, 11/04/2015 - 6:46pm

During my ride to Piermont yesterday,  I did some hand-held I-Phone work—video (mainly) and a few stills and cut together a short 3 minute video of what nature was up to between the bridge and Bunbury’s yesterday.  I’ve posted it here:  https://vimeo.com/144681357   Solo piano piece composed and played by Canadian David Kidd.

This is in further celebration of this year’s special fall colors, and earlier posts recognizing it by Hank and Richard—the latter with Jerry’s terrific video of River Road which, if you haven’t seen, I strongly recommend.

Sunday, November 29th, 22nd Annual "Thanksgiving Recovery Hike."

Submitted by nymultisport on Tue, 11/03/2015 - 10:20pm

Work off all that food by joining Marilyn and Ken on our 22nd annual climb over Diamond Mountain, an easy Harriman State Park hike, with Manhattan-skyscraper views from the summit.

For a mile or so we follow cascading Pine Meadow Brook (with recent rain, anything but a brook,) then climb the Cascade of Slid, a confused jumble of rocks caused by a hillside cave-in. There's plenty more climbing--nothing technical--and nothing the 78/yo leader can't do. After our decent, a picnic lunch at a  private--well, semi-private--spot overlooking Pine Meadow Lake awaits.

A Community of Volunteers - Paying it Forward

The NYCC has a rich history of volunteering. In fact, nothing is accomplished without it. There would be no ENY, no STS, no programs, SIGs, led rides, web site, special events, anything without our members stepping up to perform a variety of tasks.  Moreover, we have been told countless times: “we must give back” to the club; “pay it back” for all it does for us.

Elections: the Backstory

Submitted by BBryson on Mon, 11/02/2015 - 12:06pm
There has been a lot of rhetoric about the elections, and one member has called upon us to speak plainly about the issues at hand. I would like to answer that call . . .

I think Neile has gotten things done, but has missed the point, quite frankly.  Done correctly, the primary aim of the president should be to build community.  And that is not happening.

Question for Christy (Advocacy)

Submitted by NWeissman on Sun, 11/01/2015 - 7:01pm

In order to fulfill our mission, we need to take our advocacy efforts to the next level – we need to raise our game.  I would like to appoint a person whose only job is to act on our behalf on the myriad advocacy issues we encounter. I would like this person to be our liaison with Transportation Alternatives – the foremost advocacy organization in our area. Campaign message number 2 - Advocacy

Ever Complain to the City About Conditions on the Greenway in Riverside Park?

Submitted by Steve Vaccaro on Sun, 11/01/2015 - 4:36pm
If you've made such a complaint in the last three years or so and have anything in writing memorializing the complaint (such as a copy of the complaint itself or emails concerning a 311 call I'd greatly appreciate your sending me a copy, for use at a deposition of a city official tomorrow concerning path conditions. Sorry about the timing but I need it for tomorrow. Thanks! Steve

Yeah, I know this could have been nested in Hank's ""RR is Peak Color" thread...but permit me this new thead to attract readers to this gorgeous, gorgeous 8 minute view of this gorgeous, gorgeous road. You'll want to keep this URL to send your friends  who will never ride it. They'll swoon. You will too.
