Tip for boarding train at Peekskill

Submitted by HSchiffman on Sun, 08/14/2016 - 9:30am

You can see an approaching southbound train from the Peekskill platform 3 minutes before boarding.

When first visable, the details can be hard to make out. But keep looking and you should be able to see which cars have center doors. Granted, not all center car doors have a wall opposite the restroom where multiple bikes can be placed, but any center door car on the Hudson line has spaces where bikes can be placed between the last seat and the door.

Therefore, knowing where on the train center door cars are located will give you the opportunity to place yourself on the plateform relative to the correct position for boarding so you don't have to run with your bike to board because you happen to be on the wrong end of the platform.

Knog Oi Bike Bell

Submitted by vinlaw on Wed, 08/10/2016 - 10:45am

I have always been reluctant to adorn my handlebars with something as clumsy looking as a traditional bike bell but given the local Bobbies recent enthusiasm for citing cyclists for not having audible devices I went googling for something a bit more integrated looking, found this and thought I'd share.  This is a new unobtrusive looking bike bell about to hit the market from Knog, the people who manufacture the Blinder lights.

Just to add a disclaimer I have no connection or commercial interest in this product and am not flogging them for anybody!

The thing is. . . . so many people do so much for all of us. . . .bound to miss someone.   Like the All Class Club ride, for instance.  Joe Carasso – he was in it from the beginning to the end – setting up our lunch, making it happen for us, making it be the great day it was, he was even in the picture . . . . and I missed him.  How could I?  Sheesh!

Joe was part of the team, the best team ever, the volunteer team.  Joe was what made the day great for about 200 of us.

Thanks Joe.

Bicycle riding, friends, free lunch. . . . what could be better than that?!

Sometimes, the All Class Club ride is the best ride of the Year.  Other times, it’s better than that!

Sunday, August 7th was one of those days.   I made 9 new friends, our guests, Major Taylor Iron Riders.  So much fun riding with them.  On the way back, on 9W, flying down the road.  I was enjoying the ride so much 'till I had that mechanical that made me withdraw from the paceline.  My right leg, something wrong with it, wasn’t working right, wasn’t making my bike go fast enough, gotta take it to Conrad’s – see if they can fix that darn leg.
