I received this note from a club member. His reference is to yesterday, Saturday:

Pedicab warning when riding in the Park.

Submitted by mgeller1 on Fri, 08/26/2016 - 1:10pm

Gloria Garcia crashed coming down a hill on Central Park's West Drive near West 80th Street on July 17th, hit her head, and died at New York Presbyterian Hospital on Wednesday. Her family told the Daily News that she was cut off by a pedicab driver while riding with her 16-year-old daughter.

Open invite - -join me for Saturday's "Boogie Up the Bronx River" ride

Submitted by SRodetis on Fri, 08/26/2016 - 11:52am

Neat casual ride, sponsored by NYC Parks Dept.  Pre-registration (online) required (diminimous fee) on Eventbrite.com (search for ride title, per subject line).

This salt marsh estuary of the Bronx River and in fact the Bronx River is being tremendously improved and revitalized, and this native NYer thinks it'll be really neat to follow the Greenway to Kensico and back.

Ride goes to/from the Hunts Point park - Kensico Dam.  23 miles one way, 46 round trip. Some rougher terrain so at least 25cm tires recommended. Mixed paving, conditions. Multiple bails (BYO train permit). I'm estimating a B-C pace but good bike handling skills needed.

Last minute ride listing for this Sunday - A20 Climbing to Peekskill

Submitted by edeuser on Fri, 08/26/2016 - 11:46am

Posted late yesterday so not sure if it will be up in time.  Here's the description below.  Meet 8:30am at Grant's Tomb.  Email me at ericdeuser AT gmail DOT com if you're interested and don't see the listing up yet.

---------------------------

The goal of this ride is to get in as much climbing as possible between the GWB and Peekskill, hopefully around 8,000'.  We’ll hit familiar climbs through Rockland County and Harriman with an ascent up Perkins.  If the legs are feeling good we can do a second repeat up Seven Lakes and Perkins from 9w.  We’ll finish with well-deserved beers and burgers/wings at the Peekskill Brewery.

Kind of puts a crimp in rides out of Hoboken. The PATH connection was easy.

Friday, September 2 Ride to Litchfield County

Submitted by RWechsler on Wed, 08/24/2016 - 4:08pm

I'll be riding up to Sharon, CT in Litchfield County, and not far from Dutchess or Berkshire Counties, on September 2, just before the start of the Labor Day Weekend.

The route is 90 miles, and I stay off Rt. 22, or any other busy roads.

Pace is B16-B18.

Would love some company. Options are 1) go part way, ride home, 2) go part/most of the way and take Metro North home, or 3) ride the whole way with me (!).

Email me if you have interest.
