2018 Version of Pankin Mileage Log?
Does anybody know if the 2018 version of the Mark Pankin mileage spreadsheet is available?
How to get it?
Thanks!
New route on Ride Library: north on the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail from High Bridge Park in Manhattan
Not a bad route to try this time of year when the weather moderates a bit.
Let us know if modifications are in order when ridden.
Announcing the (I think) 26th annual wheelbuilding clinic. (Or, if you prefer for yourself, just wheel truing.)
What:
• Want to learn how to build a wheel? Bring a rim, spokes, and hub. Come at 10. Go home at 2:00 with your own perfectly built wheel that you'll have built yourself.
• Want to learn just truing, not building? Bring a wheel, preferably one way out of true, but any one will do. Come at 10:30. Go home at 11:45 having learned how to true--and doing it.
When:
A Saturday or Sunday in mid-Jan. to late Feb. The class decides the date.
Where:
Upper Eastside.

Send name and e-address by Jan. 10 to the member link on the left (where you'll also find me politically).
Temperature-Wise, How Low Will You Go?
And to be more specific, what's the minimum termperature you would want to see before traveling over the GW bridge for a ride to Nyack or Haverstraw? I'm relatively new at this and have begun rides from the UWS to Nyack when the temperatures were about 32 F here (and around 26 at the 9W Market). But those rides haven't been much fun, and after riding every Saturday and Sunday for six months, I have found myself apartment-bound three of these past four weekends (a cold, the cold, rain/snow etc.) with little improvement to the weather in sight. At what point do you say "too cold" and make other plans?

How many DAYS, NOT MILES did you ride this year?
I'm dazzled by the fact Eden Weiss rode 244 days! (And, at that, with days off due to injuries in an injury-plagued year.)
So how many days did you ride. Laps in the park count; commuting rides don't.
If you want mileage, there's Jerry Piven who rode only 141 days, but 8721 miles (down 15% from last year). That included fifty (as in 50) centuries!
Eden was at 7025 miles with two days to go.
But I'm more interested in days than miles.
Times article about the anti-suicide fence on the GWB for which we were consigned to the north during its construction.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/29/nyregion/george-washington-bridge-suicide-fence.html
Wouldn't you think if the primary objective of the PA patrolmen (they are all men and they do walk in two-s) walking the GWB path was to provide safety, they wouldn't walk shoulder-to-shoulder, but, instead would walk distant from one another to cover more of the span and reach "trouble" more quickly? But, of course, that wouldn't be as enjoyable as being able to continually chat with your bud. As the patrol is now organized, it seems having the police enjoy their tour of duty takes precedence over maximixing safety.
