Portland Oregon vacation info request

Submitted by alan west on Sun, 12/26/2010 - 4:05pm

I am looking at spending a week in Portland Oregon. I have never been and was interested in any road bike routes. I'm an A rider looking to rent a road bike and do a few one day out and back rides on hills. 60-100miles terrain. If any of you have links or suggestions please post them.

Is there a bike club similar to ours out there?

Thanks

Alan

Teaneck Lunch change

Submitted by DHudes on Sat, 12/25/2010 - 10:49pm

Lacking Neile's confidence in my ability to ride in blinding snow, the ride to Teaneck for lunch far from reasonable bailout is modified:
Our new destination is Skyview Glatt Kosher Deli in Riverdale with the option to return via #1 train if appropriate or to bike home with the subway bailout available.
The start time remains 9:30 AM.

Die Hards Flu Epidemic

Due to a particularly nasty flu that respects neither Die Hards or Christmas, I regretfully have to cancel tomorrow's Yule Ride. Damn your eyes, flu.

Cycling for charity. Suggestions?

Submitted by ICho on Fri, 12/24/2010 - 3:18pm

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be riding in l'Etape du Tour this coming July.  For those of you who may not know, l'Etape is a "sportive" that is organized by the same people who run the Tour de France.  Every year, they pick one of the mountains stage of that year's Tour (usually the Queen stage) and allow amateurs to test themselves on the course.  This year, the route covers 109 km and climbs over 3400 meters, summiting the Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier, and finishing on the summit of Alpe d'Huez.

I've started a blog about the ride and my preparation for the ride which you are welcome to follow.

Hogwich ride #9 Sunday Dec.26 RIDE ON

Submitted by hogwich on Thu, 12/23/2010 - 4:56pm

9:00 Jersey side of the GWB

May shorten ride to avoid those first few flakes of snow.

Looks like we might get lucky again this weekend and avoid the predicted snow. As of now, the ride is still on, but check back here for confirmation Saturday night and/or Sunday morning. If we get this one in that'll be 8 out of 9 weekends so far. Not too shabby, but of course I just jinxed myself and everyone else.

Top 10 Largest Cycling Clubs in the US?

Submitted by arvi on Thu, 12/23/2010 - 3:43pm

RAAM has published what they are calling a list of the largest clubs in the US, and we are not on it. Baloney!

I've heard the number 2,000 floated as a NYCC membership estimate. Dunno what it really is, but surely we are bigger than some of these puny orgs:
