Announcing the (I think) 21st annual Wheelbuilding Class

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sat, 01/01/2011 - 2:01am

What: Come with a rim, hub, and spokes; go home with a perfectly built wheel that you, yourself, will have built.
When: A Sat. or Sun. in late Jan. to mid-Feb., exact date to be determined by class. 10AM-3PM
Where: Church basement, 62nd St. between Third and Second Ave.
Who: While this is not an official NYCC function, this is only for NYCC members.
Class size: Small so everyone gets a chance on the truing stand. (If you can bring one, so much the better.)
Cost: 0...but a modest, small, token contribution to the church, while not necessary, would be appreciated.
Respond: Offline to [email protected]

West Side Greenway

Decided to try this today for my last ride of the year. Figured I'd make it at least up to the GWB, but it was only cleared as far as the new esplanade and was very dicey on my road bike after that. Got as far as the tennis courts before the start of the Cherry Walk section.

Condition of GWB and 9W

Submitted by ICho on Fri, 12/31/2010 - 12:51am

Does anybody know if they are rideable? Can we get updates from people who are "in the know" about the conditions?

I'm hoping that the warmer weather this weekend melts a lot of the snow away....

Thanks!

Will this ride go/route?

FS: SPD road pedals - new - $50

Submitted by sgnoka on Thu, 12/30/2010 - 9:36am

Shimano PDA525 pedals. Uses SPD cleats such as on mountain bike pedals, but are sleek and single-sided for the road. This is a great pedal if you use MTB shoes on the road.

New old stock; pictures and more details at:

If interested, contact me at 2000 [at] jt10000.com to take a look. I'm on West 115th St in Manhattan.

Venti- 12/31 Cancelled

Submitted by GeorgeArcarola on Thu, 12/30/2010 - 8:57am

The first (and last) seven miles of this ride need a week of melting. The roads along the north shore of Nassau are ~ two thirds their normal width due to snow on the sides. The ride is CANCELLED. Look for something similar in January.

Thanks,

SATURDAY 1/1 *AND* SUNDAY 1/2, B17/50 WTF! #2 - "Hartsdale X2"

Submitted by NWeissman on Wed, 12/29/2010 - 11:47pm

SATURDAY 1/1 *AND* SUNDAY 1/2, B17/50 Winter Training & Fun! #2 - "Hartsdale X2"

START: Meet Saturday and/or Sunday at 10:30AM - 242 Street & Broadway at the end of the #1 train

FINISH: 4PM-ish at a subway in the Bronx

LEADERS: Neile Weissman - Saturday; Michael Notaro - Sunday

WHAT: Drippy roads; hung over club members; a New Year's day bikes-on-trains-ban; 40% wet forecast for Sunday; and one leader unavailable to ride Saturday -- so we're going to improvise. I'm going to lead a Saturday excursion to Hartsdale. Michael will repeat the cue on Sunday, weather permitting. There's enough warm weather between now and then to wash out the snow, so road bikes should be OK. We should be able to find something open for a bite on New Year's day, but bring snacks anyway.
