Bicycles, Rolling Stops, and the Idaho Stop

Since two of the three subjects in the title are applicable here (especially in the wake of the CP ticket blitz) I figured I would post this (2 year old) video here:

Although a stop sign is not a traffic light, the basic idea of cycling safety vs current law is there.

Buying threaded Co2 cartridges online

Submitted by MBruckner on Fri, 04/01/2011 - 11:36am

Does anyone have a store that they like/recommend for purchasing threaded 16g CO2 cartridges online?

Anyone care to team up to buy in bulk and then split the order?

Thanks!

If it's a Friday petition ride, it must be snowing.

Route to Princeton, NJ anyone?

Submitted by Charles King on Thu, 03/31/2011 - 1:32pm

Does anyone have a nice route from NYC to Princeton, NJ that avoids major roads?  I've driven there many times by automobile, but on roads that I don't care to pedal.  Thanks in advance.  Charles King.

Pot Holes at Riverside & 142nd Street Intersection Totally Repaved

Submitted by RSchmon on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 11:02pm

This afternoon, I was very happy to see brand new black-top for just over a block starting just south of 142nd street along Riverside going north and beautifully replacing the mess of potholes that were there before.  A month ago, DOT informed me they would patch it up now and do a full re-paving in the fall.  I’m delighted to see they moved their schedule up several months!

Thurs 3/31 A19 Prospect Park Training - Weather

Submitted by EOliver on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 7:37pm

The current forcast is calling for light rain in the morning and falling temps.  Based on that, there will be no ride tomorrow morning.  I will check the weather in the morning to confirm.  I'll post an update here by 5:30am.

Spring into some hills April 3rd

I have a nice route planned for this Sunday, with lots of climbing in the lower Hudson Valley. Most of the route is on quiet back roads though we are on the nicer part of 9W as well.  The original plan was about 4200 feet of climbing. I have added an optional section on the return which takes us off 9W through nice residential streets in Cresskill and Englewood.

The weather forecast looks good if somewhat cool at a high of 51F but we'll generate plenty of heat climbing. Layers are recommended.

This week, the House Subcommittee on Highways & Transit held two days of hearings in which 40 experts on all aspects of transportation testified about federal priorities.
