Maps - which do you use and where do you get them?
Hello fellow adventurers without GPS.
This is sort of a spinoff of my route-to-Copake thread.
What map brands do people like?
Is there a good place in New York City to buy local road maps, that has a good selection? Googling and looking at Amazon, I'm getting nowhere.
Thanks,
Jim
Work on the Dunwoodie/Mile Square/Tuckahoe detoured sections of the Co Trailways
Looking good! The Dunwoodie section has been graded and graveled, although not all the way to Mile Square Rd. The view from the one lane bridge on Mile Square Rd of the perpetually-flooded, impassible section reveals significant work dealing with drainage. Piles of different filling material around the northern staging area at the Tuckahoe Rd underpass look fresh.
Obviously funding and momentum are playing out to give us a direct route to Elmsford. Wheels are turning towards paving the Old Put in Van Cortlandt Park.
The best antidote for anti-cycling elements is a healthy, motivated, and growing cycling community.
The toad which was the Yonkers bypass is about to become a prince. Many will stand on its shoulders.

updates about CP and NYC streets??
so i've been trolling the message boards for many weeks seeking insight into the NYPD-cyclists situation. lately, there have not been any postings about further actions by the police against us....is this because we have become complacent and grudgingly accepting, is this because things have calmed down, or a combination of the two factors? i am unwilling to go to the park until things cool off, though i am aching to do so. it's not so easy trying to get to NJ and Rockland County during the week, and I have to work many weekends often making CP the only realistic option. would love to find out that an informal truce has been reached while we wait for the machinations of city government to work things out.
speeding 60 in a 25... on skateboards

... the windy canyon roads here at 25 miles per hour, Chance bombs down at 40, sometimes even 60 m.p.h. on his skateboard, savoring the sea breeze on his face. But this may be his last ride here.
The future of downhill skateboarding is in jeopardy in the region where the sport was born, with bans spreading across Southern California and lawmakers questioning whether people — teenagers mostly — should be barreling downhill at 60 m.p.h. with very little between them and the pavement.
