NEw to NYCC looking for prospect park riders
Hey All
I am new to the group, though not new to cycling or the city. My usual riding buddy is my roommate but he was hit a few months ago by a truck (yes on his bike, not his fault, and yes he's fine) needless to say he's not getting back on a road bike anytime soon. I've been looking for people in my range, not the fastest rider but I am great at long rides, I average 15 in Prospect Park. Is there anyone out there who rides in the park regularly who'd like ot ride with me sometime in the early am's or during the day (I'm a freelancer). Age doesn't matter though it'd be cool to ride with people in their mid twenties like I am!
Thanks
Christina
Salmoning is down a little, riding on the sidewalk seems to be down a lot.
Anyone else noticed this?
Heart Monitor Help
I am having difficulty with my heart monitor made by Polar. Last year it started giving me funny readings on occasion with readings jumping up to 200 and above. The first time it happened I actually thought I was having a heart attack and got off my bike to check myself out. I got a new bike this year with a wireless computer installed on the left side of the wheel. Since my old bike had a wireless on the right side of the wheel and I had no problems, I switched the new computer to the right side, but the problem persists. It does not happen every time, just on and off but it messes up my enjoyment of keeping a journal regarding my heart rate. I also do spinning with the same monitor and do not seem to have a problem. Any suggestions?<
Nasty smash-up in Central park this morning
At about 7am on the East Drive, behind the Met, a cyclist going at a pretty good clip slammed into a pedestrian. From what I could tell, and I was second on the scene, he must have had his head down, and he was very close to the right hand curb. He looked like a racer type, in a team kit (he had buddies in the park), and the pedestrian he slammed into apparently had just stepped off the curb just as he was racing past the crosswalk. I don't know what the traffic light situation was. I heard a scream, I looked up, and they both went down HARD. He was a bloody mess, his chin gashed, he claimed to have lost a tooth as his face hit the pavement. She was a large woman with an Eastern Euro accent, and she had trouble getting up. They were both pretty dazed, but lucid.
Sunday 6/12 - GWB closed?
Seems like this weekend is the 2011 GW Bridge Challenge Ride (http://determination.acsevents.org/site/TR/DetermiNation/DNFY11EA?fr_id=...), which may close the GWB bridge entirely. From their website...
SBRshop.com $45 for $85 of merchandise
I just received an e-mail for Active.com's imitation Groupon called Swaggle. There is a deal for $85 of merchandise for $45. It is not applicable to in-store purchases

Cue Sheet from Central Park to Bedford??
I was planning on a ride on Father's Day, but plans change. Instead I'm scheduled to attend an event at a friend's place in Bedford. So I was thinking I could ride there and get home by car. Does anyone have a route to suggest or a cue sheet to Bedford area? Thanks!
