Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR Impossible to Mount

Submitted by dvisoky on Sat, 06/04/2011 - 7:46am

Part II  - Well I received my 2010 Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR Wheels and my mechanic and I had a horrible time mounting the clincher tires.  We had to use tire irons and both had to work to mount them.  If I ever had a flat I would have to actually cut the tires off the bike.  The Rims appear to be too big for a standard 700cc tire.  I heard that Zipp Wheels might have the same problem

I went online and someone mentioned to use Zipp Red Rim tape (rather than standard Mavic Tape which might be too thick) which is very thin and to use a Mavic Tire Iron when mounting - flat head.  I also heard to about using Wire Bead Tires

Brake lever help needed

Submitted by KTaylor on Fri, 06/03/2011 - 1:36pm

I made the switch from a hybrid to road bike aout a year ago, and am finally getting miles on the new bike.  For the most part I love it, but I find that braking is a problem.  I feel like my hands aren't big enough to truly wrap around the brake levers so that I have good emergency braking control.  For example, while riding home form work yesterday a jogger decided to come off the sidewalk and into the bike lane on E90th Street near the park - without looking for oncoming bicycles, of course.  I saw him at the last second as he darted into the street andknocked me over.  Luckily there were no cars, so except for some road rash it wasn't a big deal.  BUT...I felt like I was reaching for the brakes, instead of quickly braking in response to the unex
