B16 Morning Laps in Central Park - status of Thursday, Oct. 13
I won't be riding Thursday, Oct. 13. However, if it's not raining at the start, Jerry Ross plans to be there to ride with anyone who shows up. I hope to see you next Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Seeking help finding the right ride (C or B)
Hi folks. Brand new member of NYCC and want to pick the right rides.
I live in Brooklyn, so I don't get to Central Park that often for the self test. Here's some info:
I've been riding seriously for two years - a lot of commuting from Bklyn to midtown manhattan during the summer months (20 miles round trip)
Have done a number of long-ish rides ranging from 30 to 55 miles (including ENY, NYC Century (55) and Bike MS NY (50)). Longest ride was last week: 75 miles Brooklyn to Piermont, NY and back.
I'm a heavy guy, weigh about 287. I ride a Giant Rapid 2 (hybrid) - described as a road bike-like frame with flat handlebars. No knobby tires or suspension
"Dropped by Sam" morning laps - off for Thursday
slight possibility it will not rain, but i won't be awake at 5am to find out! feel free to ride anyway if the inclination strikes you.
chronic pelvic pain caused by cycling
Please excuse the interruption from the normally brighter fare on this message board. If you or someone you know is suffering from chronic pelvic pain caused by cycling and has been unable to obtain relief, please feel free to contact me. I have been suffering from chronic pelvic pain for over two years due to cycling, and I just had surgery that offered me immediate relief from some of my pain. Although I face a lengthy post-surgical recovery period, I am continuing to experience improvement almost every day. The surgeon that I saw uses methods that he has developed himself and in my case (and in many others) he did not sever any ligaments. The surgery has meant a marked improvement in my life and I finally have reason to be optimi
river road
Is River Road okay to ride.Havn't been there in a while
An incredibly lucky woman
Repaving 181st Street E/W
For all those who utilize the bike path at 181st Street in Wash. Heights, the road is milled all the way from the western-most street to at least St. Nich (I didn't walk further than that today), so I assume the paving will be forthwith. It will be quite an improvement, especially the steep hill down/up to the entrance to the path itself.
dangers in CP
The park seems to have gotten more dangerous in the last few weeks:
Last week-
Rider on cell phone, no hands
jogger in bike lane running with traffic, ear buds in, oblivious to surroundings
two hot dog carts passing (or more like going shoulder to shoulder with) one pedicab on opposite sides at the entrance to HSA leaiving no room for anyone else
Today 5:30-6:30 am-
no lights at the bottom of harlem hill - total darkness
Guy sauntering across bike lane in that total darkness
Rider 40 feet in front of me on west loop before merge with lower loop, pulls to the left curb into the jogging lane then without looking turns right across all lanes of traffic to make a U-turn! Could have been killed!
Signed up for Fall Foliage Ride but can't make it?
For the most part, the upcoming Fall Foliage rides are fully booked. And since we have arrangements with Metro North for train return to the city, we cannot add on additional riders or groups for this year's rides.
If you have signed up for one of the rides, however, and now realize that you won't be able to make it, please unregister for that particular ride. That way, at least a few more people who have expressed interest might be able to participate.
Many thanks, and enjoy the series!
