Englewood, NJ war zone

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 5:42pm

It's amazing what a snow belt Englewood is.  I noticed last winter how they always had more snow piled up than just west of the town.  I decided to take 501 to Piermont today, as I feared 9W would have little, if any, shoulder to ride on.  I was correct.  However, the sides streets we usually take to get to East Clinton (Summit, Lyncrest, Lydecker, Pershing, etc.) were SLAMMED.  There were thousands of branches down, hundreds of old trees, and several power lines as well.  I have to hand it to the Tenafly township, though; there were STOP signs up where the main traffic lights were not powered, and all in all it was an okay ride.  Piermont, as Jay said in a separate post, was fine.  It was GETTING to Piermont that was the issue.

A happy story about bikes and kids

Being in the news business, which tends to be a bit depressing, I've recently taken to scanning our AP offerings for what I'm calling "Happy News" to post through Facebook and Twitter. Today my selection involves bikes and kids, which makes it extra happy and also, I think, worthy of posting here.

Happy Halloween

People who commute to work by car, train or bus are more likely to have health worries than active commuters who walk or cycle, a study found.

Sounds like the survey deals more with the Stress of commuting and then on your personal life rather than the fact that excersise helps control, weight, stress and helps you feel younger.
