I am hearing the call of the road, anybody else interested?

Thinking of posting an A20 to one of the above destinations...

Linda Wintner quoted in WSJ (11/22 p A21) regarding unleashed dogs in Park

Submitted by JJacobson on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 8:28am

In recent years dogs have been less of a problem  for cyclists in suburbia.  In my opinion, invisible elec. fences have been largely responsible.  Too bad they are impractical for use in park.

Wet sloshy roads plus slippery leaves = ride cancelled. Bah, humbug.

Emergency Contact Info reminder

Submitted by DHudes on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 6:34pm

Folks should please ensure their emergency contact information in their profile is up to date so that when they sign up for a ride it is added to the signup sheet. I think this was mentioned previously, though I couldn't find the thread, but it is very much still an issue based on recent evidence.

I realize that the webmaster is -very- busy but it would seem that a script to scan the database and e-mail those whose information is missing would be in order. I can help with such if so desired.

Bike for sale - seems fishy

Submitted by uwsrider on Sun, 11/20/2011 - 9:51pm

Someone is selling a 50cm Specialized Allez , Full Ultegra 10X2 for only $500 on CL.  Here is the link http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bik/2712309998.html

Bike is worth alot more than $500.  The ad and seller sound sketchy, so if anyone knows someone who "lost" a great bike, this may be it..

non-fork judder

Submitted by EJacobs on Sat, 11/19/2011 - 11:32pm

Hi folks, any bike Dr. Houses in the house?

A problem cropped up out of the blue on today's ride: when I did a fast descent on rough-ish road, I'd get this weird judder. A noise kinda like a cross between going really fast on knobbies and having a leaf stuck in your spokes. And a very unpleasant vibration like going over tiny, closely packed rumble strips. It's not fork shimmy; been there, done that on another bike. Doesn't feel like it's on the front end at all, and the bike still feels stable and goes where it's pointed. It actually feels like it's coming from the rear.

Sunday's RAAM Ride Replaced With Bronx>Greenwich>Armonk Triangle Ride

Submitted by nymultisport on Sat, 11/19/2011 - 9:13am

Too few signups for Manhattan-only ride. Instead, we plan to ride an about-40-mile Bronx->Greenwich->Armonk->Bronx triangle. We'll meet 9:30AM at 241st St/Wakefield (last stop on the #2 train), hop/skip/jump along the Hutch side roads to Greenwich, continue past SUNY Purchase on the way to an Armonk lunch. Return by paralleling the Kensico Reservoir, some bike baths, and streets to the initial start point. No signups necessary. Simply show up BEFORE 9:30, ready to ride. Marilyn and I will be there.

Overflow riders for Saturday B18-22 to Bear Mtn

Submitted by DLoayza on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 1:11pm

This ride is maxxed out due to metro-north rider limit of 8. Some people have expressed interest in tagging along. If this is you, read on.

Since 3 riders are skipping the restaurant at the end (going straight to the train), this allows up to 5 more riders to tag along who will ALSO go straight to the train. If this is of interest to you, post a reply here on this page, specifying that you will be skipping the restaurant. In the morning you will manually sign the rider roster. This is absolutely limited to 5 more riders.

Indoor Winter Cycling

Submitted by talibaba on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 10:42am

Hey All,

I lead an indoor cycling class and I'm working with my manager to create a triathlon/cycling specific class for the winter months.  He's offered a deep discount to club members (something like $10/class) with the caviate that I can guarantee a full class.

The studio is called Crank, and is located in LIC, queens (the first stop into queens off the 7 train).  The class would probably be between 60-75mins in length and geared toward outdoor riding (ie, we won't be doing "jumps" etc. in these classes).

I'd love to get some feedback on whether people would be

1. interested at all
