Sorry for the late notice. I just withdrew from Jim Finder's Saturday 9:30 am ride, if anyone wants the spot.

National Cycling Association CEO Jack Simes and NCA Director Mike Green unveiled plans yesterday for the Kingsbridge Armory velodrome project in the Bronx. Plans include hosting an eight-week demo, projected for next spring...showcasing both a six-day race and youth program.

Tree Carnage in Bergen

Submitted by CWaaser on Fri, 11/04/2011 - 11:46am

Please be very careful riding in Bergen County this weekend.  The trees and debris have not all been cleared from the sides of the roads (and there's so much of it, it won't all be cleard by Saturday or Sunday).  Some roads (including sections of 501) are at best 2/3rds of their normal width, leaving much less room for bikes and cars to co-exist peacefully.  If you ride too far to the right, you will suddenly find your path blocked by debris - if a car is passing just then, good luck.  Also, there are sharp ends of branches sticking out both from piles at the side of the road and from standing trees.  Some of these are at eye level but not easily seen.  There are still wires dangling into the roads - I assume they are no longer live, but please

NYCC/Marathon - best wishes

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Fri, 11/04/2011 - 11:05am

I rode thru the lower loop of Central Park this morning on my way to work.  Whoa!  The excitement in the air was awe-inspiring.  A million people, speaking a thousand languages, photo crews, running teams, movie stars, lay people - wow - New York, New York.  This stuff only happens here, in this city, in our city.  You and I have lots of friends who are participating in this year's annual Marathon elebration - some for the first time - others for the umpteenth.  For the rest of their lives they will own this experience - revel in it - it will be their's.  I'm so envious.

To each and every one - have a great run - I know you will!

Jones Beach Bicycle Ticket

Submitted by P. Lee on Thu, 11/03/2011 - 4:18pm

A friend of mine got a ticket back in 1997 for riding his bike in the parking lot at Jones Beach.  At the first appearance, he pled not guilty and he was told that he would be advised of the trial date when it was scheduled.

Well, it now has been scheduled - 14 years later!  He has to show up at Nassau County on Dec 8.  He can avoid it by paying a $95 fine.  The original fine was $25.

Aside from the absolute absurdity of every aspect of this, any advice as to how to proceed?

Meet Up for Marathon Ride -- Union Square

Submitted by FLeffel on Thu, 11/03/2011 - 2:19pm

I'm starting this thread to see who wants to meet up Sunday morning at Union Square to ride out to Brooklyn for the Marathon Ride. While I've biked out there from Manhattan several times previously, I can't say that I'm confident that I know the way. Therefore, I'd really appreciate someone who is comfortable with the route joining us.

As for time -- I'm guessing we need 40 -45 minutes to get there, so that means leaving about 5:15. (Yipes.)  Fortunately, we turn the clocks back this weekend.
