Nov. 10 party for bike advocacy in Bronxville

Submitted by davidmckaywilson on Fri, 10/28/2011 - 1:43pm

NYCC Friends,
I need your help to make our Nov. 10 dinner rally for bike advocacy in Bronxville a success.
We’ve cut the price to $25 for an evening that includes micro-brewed ale from our sponsor, Captain Lawrence, dinner by Ciao, and a performance by singer Champian Fulton. You’ll hear about the nascent campaign to preserve the old Tappan Zee Bridge, turning it into the three-mile long Tappan Zee Park that would feature a world-class destination for cyclists, runners, skateboarders, inline skaters, and pedestrians.  Think about that Two Bridges Ride!

Fight Rand Paul's attempt to sabotage federal funding for bike improvements

Submitted by GraceL on Fri, 10/28/2011 - 10:30am

Dear NYCClub members,

There's a new threat in the US Sentate to cut federal funds that go to biking infrastructure and you must act RIGHT NOW if you wish to tell Senators Schumer and Gillebrand (or any other US Senators) to vote against it.

The attack comes in an amendment proposed by Senator Rand Paul (KY) that would redirect all funding for Transportation Enhancements to bridge repairs. Mr. Paul's amendment is set for a Senate vote this Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Optimist...Friday morning CP laps - A-slow

Submitted by GYang on Thu, 10/27/2011 - 5:19pm

Looking at the weather forecast for tonight with an optimistic eye, I am hoping that it will be dry by morning.

So I am planning on riding three easy laps A-19ish starting at 5:45 AM from Engineer's Gate. Will swing by TOG at 6 AM to meet up with whoever wants to join in there.

Wont be riding if the roads are still wet at 5 am.

send me an e-mail if you are interested or just show up but I wont wait for long at either site.

Website Testers Needed

Submitted by dortsman on Thu, 10/27/2011 - 2:46pm

To The NYCC community...

I need ten (or so) people to help me out testing.  In the coming days, we will be ready to test what is easily the biggest update to the site since the big switch over.

I'm looking for people who regularly ride/lead.  You'll have a set of specific tasks to complete.  Total time commitment: 30 to 90 minutes.

Email me at [email protected] w/ the subject line: 'Test Volunteer'.

Thanks...Darren

Signed up for Fall Foliage Ride #3 but can't make it?

Submitted by WWright on Thu, 10/27/2011 - 12:24pm

Once again, this Saturday's Fall Foliage ride #3 listings are fully booked.  And since we have arrangements with Metro North for train return to the city, we cannot add on additional riders or groups for this year's rides.

If you have signed up for Saturday's ride, however, and now realize that you won't be able to make it, please unregister for that particular ride.  That way, at least a few more people who have expressed interest might be able to participate.

Cross your fingers that the weather forecast for Saturday improves between now and then.

River Road this time of year

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Wed, 10/26/2011 - 2:05pm

If you can get out in the next week to ride River Rd, it is SPECTACULAR!  Just from yesterday to today, the colors have gotten more vibrant.  I had to stop three times just to take some phone pics.  In another few days, maybe a week, is when it'll look like Oz, with the yellow-leaf road instead of bricks, usually off to both sides.  THIS is why I love riding...it's the journey more than the destination. (Though the blondie at the 9W market was deLISH!)
