NYCC Ride Library's second mtn bike route! Brewster to Cold Spring

Probably the library's longest and most confusing ride description. The cue sheet is more like a treasure hunt than directions. Paradoxically, this point to point ride is nebulous, a metaphor for the journey of life itself.

Should you do this ride, pack a lunch; you will need it.

new form of no-contact bicycle dynamo lighting

Submitted by NWeissman on Fri, 02/17/2012 - 11:30pm

"German inventor Dirk Strothmann has created what he claims is a small, no-contact, self-contained dynamo bike light.  According to Strothmann, his fork- or brake caliper-mounted Magnic Light works with any type of metallic wheel rims. While other contactless dynamos do exist, those incorporate wheel-mounted magnets. Dirk's product, however, has the magnets in the dynamo, and utilizes eddy currents. In a nutshell, these are electrical currents that are induced in a conductor, when that conductor is exposed to a changing magnetic field."

Brown rice syrup and arsenic

Submitted by Dwight Schrute on Fri, 02/17/2012 - 6:53pm

Most of you have probably read about products containing brown rice syrup having relatively high levels of arsenic.  Cliff bars and gel bloks use brown rice syrup.  I just got off the phone with their customer service and their position is quite disappointing.  They basically suggested they are confident in their product despite the fact that they could not say that they have tested for levels of arsenic in their brown rice syrup since this study was published.

Articles you want to read about NYCCers Ellen Jaffe and Randy Cohen

A wonderful article about Ellen was buried in another thread where it might not  be as well seen as it would in its own thread. So, credit to N. Davis who posted it at:  http://nycc.org/message-board/our-testimony-city-council-we-need-police-..., but I've lifted the link to the article so it's here: http://www.velojoy.com/2012/02/16/bold-new-direction-for-new-york-cycle-club/
