Below ....from a recent Paul Kimmage piece.

for years Kimmage has been one of few courageous public voices about the truth behind this fairy tale.

UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles

Feels like the wheels are falling off professional cycling. Omega Pharma-Quick Step firing of Levi Leipheimer seems like an attempt to enforce silence.

UCI's credibility is shot. Who will lead the sport out of this morass?

Wed/Thursday late morning A ride

Submitted by MBruckner on Sun, 10/21/2012 - 10:36pm

Anyone else not like to ride at 6am? In the dark? And the cold!? I'm planning to ride upstate on Wednesday and/or Thursday  (from Brooklyn). I don't usually do anything fancy. Usually just a muffin in Piermont via River Rd. and home via 9W. However, I'm flexible on routes/destinations. Anyone also flexibly employed and care to join? A20-25.

Anyone know the current/future status of the pavement on the QBB bike path?

Submitted by MHiller on Sun, 10/21/2012 - 9:09pm

Last time I was out there, a couple of weekends ago, the pavement from about 60% of the crossing to about 90%, coming from the Queens side to the Manhattan, was ground down to some kind of metal gridwork with underlying pavement in the interstices. But not even close to flush with the top of the gridwork. Pretty unpleasant to ride on, especially coming westbound as a descent. I assume this was a stage in a repaving project. Has repaving proceeded and the problem been fixed? Or if not, when might we expect it'll be done?

Walkathons. Ugh. (Or not ugh?)

I hate to be a curmudgeon about this, but am I the only one who thinks these things have gotten overly frequent?

Monday noon ride Froking Our Way to Piermont

Submitted by jpiven on Sat, 10/20/2012 - 5:52pm

Hi folks,

Douwe and I are doing a perambulating ride to Piermont, replete with a maple-bacon donut stop and oodles of hills to metabolize the porcine pastries....

http://nycc.org/node/59702

However the link is temporarily malfunctioning, telling us that the ride has already happened.... This has prevented a few people from signing on (and has made a few people return to their Cartesian mode of reality-questioning).

So just know that the ride is on, and we hope that the glitch will be fixed before the ride actually (not virtually) occurs.

Free carbon bike

Submitted by JReaven on Sat, 10/20/2012 - 4:17pm

Hi old friends and new...I'll be in NYC the last week in November. Help me empty a smallish storage locker on the West side and my 24 inch (fairly large) carbon Specialized Roubaix Elite is yours, along with some other sports equipment. Of course, you could also sell the stuff. Vehicle helpful but probably cab or 2 will do. Bike is 7 years old but in great shape, not ridden in 2 years. All Ultegra components, Ksyrium wheels. If I had the time, I would distribute the stuff to Recycle-a-Bicycle and Housing
Works, but I just won't have time. [email protected]
