Montauk?

Submitted by EJacobs on Tue, 11/06/2012 - 3:50pm

Is it rideable this weekend? From say, Queens, taking the train back?

I'm particularly concerned about flooded/sandy roads.

Staten Cyclocross cancelled; now a chance to volunteer on SI

Submitted by Slugger on Tue, 11/06/2012 - 7:15am

Received this email from the race director of Staten Island Cyclocross. This was to be my first 'cross race, and while I'm disappointed, it is amazing what they are doing for and with the community. The Parks Dept worked like crazy to get the park ready. Read on for options to volunteer/donate this weekend (I've edited out some parts, like how we can donate our race fees to recovery).

Conclusion of my Nyack cycling ticket story

Submitted by abrowning on Mon, 11/05/2012 - 8:16pm

Today was our "court" date.  Three of the 7 people ticketed for not fully stopping at a stop sign showed up (2 had already settled, 2 others deferred until December) at the firehouse on Depot Place at 5:00 p.m.

Update on My Ticket

Submitted by RPu on Mon, 11/05/2012 - 11:18am

In August, I posted a message about being ticketed for running a red light in Central Park. This morning, I appeared at the Criminal Courthouse at 346 Broadway in Manhattan.

There was an initial check-in process which took about forty minutes. Then, there was what I take to be an arraignment process that took about fifteen minutes.

Ad hoc A/21 paced morning lap ride tomorrow, Tues., 11/6, 6:00 AM from Engineers Gate.  3 laps, no sign ups required, no suing allowed.  If enough people show up, we'll split into two groups, one a little faster than the other.  Be there on time, ride is gone by 6:01 AM.

Report from today's Long Beach ride

Submitted by NWeissman on Sun, 11/04/2012 - 9:17pm

Across 59 Street Bridge.  Through Queens and out to Long Beach.  Food stops in Valley Stream and Hewlett.  Back through Queens with some of opting out of the last ten miles via the "F" near Jamaica.

Route was challenging for a number of reasons -- trying to avoid power lines or fallen trees, staying off main roads and not wanting to appear like a bunch of neopreening ninnies meandering through a war zone.    And it was a navigational headache, but I think we threaded the needle with some good runs and water views to boot.
