Idea for a ride series - Post-Sandy Party

Submitted by Slugger on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 9:22pm

I had what I thought would be a really fun idea for a ride series this summer. Unfortunately, my focus this year has shifted and I'm not gunning for my jersey, so I'm not putting together these leads. However, I'm hoping that a ride leader or group of leaders (hey Siggies!!) would like to take this up.

Basically, the idea is to help the ongoing recovery of communities hardest hit by Sandy by riding out and patronizing their businesses. Wait, what was that? You mean, I can do good, help out others, and spread the wealth by buying ice cream and hot dogs on the boardwalk?! You mean, I should go to the beach?! Really, doesn't this sound like a very pleasurable way to speed the recovery of these places who are hanging on by their fingernails?

Are you doing the ride to Montauk?

Submitted by galgalone on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 4:33pm

Hi guys,

I am doing the ride to Montauk on June 1st (the 152 miles) and would love to have some sort of paceline situation happening to make the ride less painful and more sociable.  Are you an A rider? did you sign up for Montauk? Would love to connect and ride...

Pains in the Neck

Submitted by JOlson on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 2:02pm

No really, I mean it.

I have been experiencing quite sharp pains in my neck, mostly on the left side, together with reduced ability to turn my head either way, e.g., to check on riders to my rear. I'm pretty sure that this must be from cycling, especially during and since the SIG.

Other discomforts, like pains in my hands from holding the handlebars, go away promptly following rides, but this seems to have become a regular part of my life.

Can anybody recommend stretches or exercises for this condition?

Many thanks, Jim

Looking for fellow C riders in or around Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan

Submitted by CTaber on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 11:43am

50 yr old rider, located 43rd & 9th in Manhattan, just getting started riding (somewhat) seriously - looking for compatible company a/k/a 1 or more others to ride with to explore various routes around the city.  If anyone has something going on, I'd love to join up, or we can get our own thing going.  Clearly all the weekend C-rides on the boards are totally oversubscribed, so it seems hopeless to actually do any organized riding via NYCC!  (Once I'm a little more experienced, might start one of my own).  Anyway, I'm pretty slow, especially uphill, but I will improve!  My 4-lap time around CP is a little less than 2 hours, so put me in the 14 mph category.

New Website Feature: Ride Reminders

Submitted by iforst on Mon, 05/13/2013 - 8:19am

All,

We've recently rolled out some new functionality that allows members to enable automated ride reminders 48 hours prior to a ride start. The intent is to remind enrolled riders to withdraw if they're not planning on joining so that other members may join. We encourage every member to enable the Ride Reminder email following the instructions below.

  1. Click on "Your Account" on the top right hand corner of the screen.
  2. Click on "Edit"
  3. Click on "Profile"
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and check the box next to "Receive Ride Reminders"
  5. Click on "Save"

Once enabled, you should receive an email approximately 48 hours prior to the ride's scheduled start time.
