Looking for a few good good (wo)men
Hello all,
In an effort to improve the infrastructure that support our club functions, we're taking on an effort to document the IT infrastructure that supports the various club functions. We're looking for one or two volunteers with experience documenting IT systems and processes. It isn't a very complex environment so I woulnd't expect it to take more than 10-20 (max) hours of work over the course of a few weeks.
What makes this club great? An example...
Several years ago, Harry Woods put together a group of rides scheduled for December and January called, "The Die Hards". Seeing a need for club rides in the cold and dreary days of winter, Harry created a solution. I went on some of these rides rides in the first year... I had a ball! Eventually, Harry asked if I'd be willing to co-lead (silly Harry!)...
We left the participation limits very high... at 50. And sure enough, many members joined us for one or more of these rides. Some of the rides were VERY well attended, perhaps TOO well attended. And the ride calendar (at least at the 'A' level) was pretty barren.
Good price on 26" studded tires
These are for dirt roads with snow-ice. You can get by with less for icey city commuting.
Saxo Tinkoff, Tinkoff Saxo??

How to stay warm without the sweat
A great little infographic on staying warm without sweating in the winter.
Unfortunately, as those on my ride today will attest, no matter how many times you've done it before, you're gonna get it wrong sometimes. *sigh*
On your next trip through Grand Central
If you have some holiday shopping to do -- or just some time to kill -- take a stroll through the holiday craft fair set up by the central 42nd Street exit.

I cut through the station after my run this morning (yes, I was walking slowly), and took a side trip to see the craft fair. It ended up taking at least an hour as I gazed at all the beautiful handwrought items and spoke with the designers or reps.
As a lifelong artist and seamstress, and once-upon-a-time craft museum administrator, I was impressed by everything that I saw -- even though I have no money to spend at present.
Cheap 16oz threaded CO2 cartridges
I like to buy my CO2 cartridges in bulk, which saves plenty of money and time. I just bought what I hope will be something like 5 years worth of cartridges. I've found that food service companies will sell CO2 cartridges for lower prices than bike parts vendors.
I got my 60 cartridges for $60 from an ebay seller: whipcreamfactory
Heavy-handed bike-biz practices
This stinks, and I don't even want to name the company:
