Here is a little cycling info I found in one of the free NY papers. AM NY--yes, the best things are free.  aquastudionny.com

For those of you who maybe a little adverse to cold weather cycling and tired of regular spin classes. You can try cycling indoors and in a pool.   I can't wait to try it myself.

Dork factor

Submitted by CWaaser on Wed, 11/27/2013 - 3:51pm

Okay, I've crossed the line!  Been Citibiking about town and decided I should have a Citibike-specific helmet, so bought one of those cute but slightly dorky Bern round helmets, for which one can also purchase a winter liner with knit earmuffs.  Since my regular cycling glasses with small mirror don't work well with this helmet, I also bought a HubBub helmet mirror.  So now I'll be trundling around town on a Citibike with my dorky helmet with dorkier earmuffs and even dorkier helmet mirror...but boy, will I feel warm and safe!  Wave to me as you zip on by.

Easy A/ FOBO Laps.

Submitted by vinlaw on Wed, 11/27/2013 - 9:34am

Jody and Marjorie have concluded their excellent Fall Easy A laps around the park. I am a little slow on the uphill sections of the park to keep pace with the regular FOBO riders but I still want to keep riding so I am going to post laps at the Easy A pace for the next few weeks at least and try make it to Christmas anyway. I would prefer start at 5.45am as it gives me a little more time to make it to work. If anybody is interested in joining me for a rotating leader pool a la the FOBOs please post here or hit me up off list.

Thanks.

Vince.

London - a reminder to be careful out there...

Submitted by GYang on Wed, 11/27/2013 - 9:14am

Sixth cyclist fatality in two weeks in London, 14 this year. Some have proposed banning heavy trucks at certain times.

Many fatalities were attributed to a vehicle turning left into an adjacent and unseen cyclist (equivalent to a car turning right and cutting off a rider here in the US).

Build a Bike Prg

Submitted by DAumand on Mon, 11/25/2013 - 2:55pm

Hi all,  I work for Queens Law Associates and together with the Queens District Attorney's Office we are joining with "The D'Brickashaw Fergusan Foundation" to help kids from the low income areas in the Rockaways on Saturday, December 21st to "build a bike."  The program is looking for cyclists such as ourselves to show up in our full regalia and simply talk about cycling [essentially, all we have to do is show off] while other volunteers teach them how to build a bike.  The program is from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Submitted by GRoss on Sun, 11/24/2013 - 3:47pm

Because of work commitments I am cancelling Tuesday morning's Central Park ride. At this point no one has signed up for it so I hope this message is read before anyone makes commitments to appear at the park at 6:00 AM at near freezing temperature. If you do go anyway, don't wait for me. Jerry Ross
