Vuelta Puerto Rico!

Submitted by EJacobs on Thu, 12/05/2013 - 12:38pm

I'm going! (Anyone else?)

Has anyone done this ride before? I'm worried about getting my bike over there. Any recommendations about what the best way is? I'm flying JetBlue from JFK, and their bike fee is only $50 each way. Can I pack my bike in a cardboard box for JetBlue, or will TSA's goons destroy it? A hardcase will add significantly to the budget.

Or would it be better for me to ship it? The official ride shipping service costs $255 round trip, not including (as far as I can tell) disassembly and assembly. This seems a little steep. I wonder if I could ship it independently?

Oh, and I'm possibly looking for a room share for the 23, 24, and 25th.

Any advice appreciated,

-Erica

I'm forever in awe of the many truly accomplished people in our club. Here's the latest that has come to my attention. This is from the Website of the Ethical Culture Society, announcing a talk tonight by one of our members:

Finally, the lights I always wanted

Submitted by JHunt on Tue, 12/03/2013 - 5:00pm

I don't ride at night as a general rule. But from time to time I'm headed for GCP before dawn, or get caught out late on rides that take longer than planned, and wish I had a convenient light to clip on. Here are front and rear lights that are easy to clip on when you need them and fit together like the ying/yang symbol so they are easy to carry. http://igg.me/p/citylite/x/5609330

I don't normally hock product, and I'm not making a penny doing this. I just thought it was a very clever idea and a worthwhile start up you might want to know about...and "yes" I ordered a pair.

Wed morning mellow A ride in Central Park

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Tue, 12/03/2013 - 11:44am

Informal mellow A ride Wed morning, 6:00 AM from Tavern on the Green.  It’s quiet, beautiful, peaceful in the park nowadays.  Tomorrow will also be mild by December norms.  No one will get dropped . . . . unless you drop me - you bum.

1 The Hudson Line is the most used of the 3 Metro North rail lines by NYCC cyclists.

2 Therefore, there is a possibility personnel involved in the crash has served our members.

3 Notice the preponderance of center door cars in photos. No doubt many of us have traveled in some of these cars.

4 Conceivably, these cars going off line might affect the make up of future bike trains.

5 Surviving a crash in an automobile with seat belts and airbags at 82 mph is not a given.

6 Metro North has been very good for cycling. They have proven to be excellent partners in adding a greater dimension to our cycling experience.

I heard we were lacking in interesting topics, so here's a general thing to talk about (talking as a member! Remember I'm not on the board yet!):

I think we should strive for conversation on the messageboard to be productive, even if the topic is arcane.
