Live Easy Ride for 1/4/13 cancelled

Submitted by tcirolia1 on Fri, 01/03/2014 - 4:15pm

Cancelled for obvious weather reasons, however if you were signed up and want to still get some outdoor activity I'll be meeting some other leaders for a "coffee ride".  Here's the basic details:

We'll meet at Eleanor Roosevelt Statue at 10 AM.  The ride will require fat, and studded, tires (I'll be on a mountain bike) and dress really warm.  We'll head south along the bike path, and eventually hop over into Brooklyn; we'll spin along through Brooklyn making our way to the Pulaski Bridge and into Long Island City to Bricktown Bagels for coffee and a snack; then over the 59th Street Bridge and back into Manhattan, where the ride will end.  Hope to see you there.  Tom

Please email me, using the link to the left.

Thanks in advance.

Henry Hudson Drive, a/k/a River Road

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Wed, 01/01/2014 - 4:42pm

First off, Happy New Year, all!  I pass along some hearsay under the heading "Don't Shoot the Messenger."  Please.

I went out at 1ish today on my favorite riding path:  River Rd; sheltered from westerly winds, fewer cars, and peaceful.  Another boulder had rolled off the mountain into the center of the road, so I stopped at Alpine to let the police know.  I was informed that "the powers that be" are working on eliminating bikes at all, as a few have sued after crashing, caused -- the cyclists say -- by debris in the road.

I mean by this thread to provoke a serious, thoughtful discussion.  Not a forum for complaining.

Here's one that while not easy to keep, pays huge dividends:
