February 13, 2015

The New York Bicycling Coalition (NYBC), a twenty-five old non-profit organization based in Albany, New York, is seeking a full-time Executive Director.

Since 1990, New York Bicycling Coalition (NYBC) has served the State of New York and its residents by providing a clear and consistent voice for the interests of people who ride bikes and by promoting the safe use of the bicycle for transportation, recreation, health, and tourism.

"All That You Leave Behind" by David Carr, RIP

Many of you will be surprised to find out that David Carr, the extremely-well-regarded NYT journalist who passed away tonight, had sampled bicycle touring enough to write this 2013 piece for Bicycling Magazine.

At the cost of 15-20 thousand dollars per car, they could've had a whole fleet of decent road bikes/mtb's to patrol the whole park.

It does have AC tho.

saying clear

Submitted by HDershowitz on Thu, 02/12/2015 - 10:42am
  • The practice of yelling “clear” is, in fact, pretty widely accepted but varies from place to place.
  • Those who follow the practice do so with the understanding that it remains incumbent upon each and every rider in the group to “look out for themselves” – that a “clear” call is really just a temporal courtesy from the person at the front of the group, at that particular time that they arrive at the intersection, stop sign, etc.

Come with Brian to a spin class?

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Thu, 02/12/2015 - 9:46am

I've decided already not to even attempt an outdoor ride this upcoming weekend. I usually reserve this decision for 12-24 hours ahead, but I've got other things to fit into the weekend so I have little flexibility anyway.

Usually what I do is take a spin class when I know I can't ride on a weekend.

I never see any fellow road cyclists there, but I'm not opposed to making a social occasion out of it. So with that in mind:

Saturday, 9am, Revolve Fitness, Union Square area (13th and University) (before you jump in, there is some fine print below)

Finding riding partners with Sesh

Submitted by agrealish on Wed, 02/11/2015 - 7:57pm

Hi Everyone,

I've been part of the NYC cycling community since 2006 and since then have always looked for different ways to find cycling buddies -- group rides, Escape NY, chatting with ppl at the Runcible Spoon, and now an APP!

Im beta testing Sesh, a location-aware site designed to connect like-minded people for outdoor adventures.

I wanted to air it out to the community here and get some initial feedback.

And for those hearty souls, here are a couple of rides :)

Prospect Park laps and a Nyack ride

Two of our bikes were stolen from a locked storage unit in my building today (Between February 2nd and February 10th)
