April club meeting - Acoustic Music Night - who wants to play?

Submitted by CTaber on Mon, 03/02/2015 - 12:19am

Hi everyone,

Some of you know me and some of you don't, so a short intro: This will be my 3rd year of riding in the club, usually at B16 level.  But that's not what I'm posting about - I'm posting about our April 7 acoustic music night for the club meeting.  When Neile and Sam approached me about playing music director for this event, I thought it sounded like a ton of fun.  I've been playing guitar and singing in the NY music scene for about 25 years, and have played pretty much all styles professionally - jazz, rock, soul, latin, country, blues, folk and all the in-between styles too.  My parents were 60s folkies and it kinda grew from there.

For you Mallorca riders

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sun, 03/01/2015 - 9:29pm

The Photo-of-the-Week on our Website pictures NYCCers in Mallorca wearing Mallorca-themed jerseys Harv Bedi gifted them. The following link is to an article and photos shot in Mallorca that is nothing other than a bike apparel business promo with a thin veneer of being something more than that. He didn't say so, but is there any chance whatsoever the writer was not "comped"? This ain't journalism; it's PR passing as journalism. But you who've ridden there may enjoy seeing it. ...Or not.

Seeking a few good RideWithGPS Gurus

Submitted by CWaaser on Sun, 03/01/2015 - 1:33pm

In an effort to modernize our ride library, we are looking to clean up many of the older style cue sheets and standardize on the current defacto standard. We also want to include an accurate and clean route mapped on RideWithGPS.

With hundreds of cue sheets in our library, we can't do this without the help of 5-10 Cue Sheet Gurus who are very familiar with RideWithGPS. We expect the task to take approximately 20-30 hours per volunteer over the next few months. This can be done at your leisure. Required Skills include:

1) Ability to convert a legacy cue sheet to a RidewithGPS route

2) Ability to manhandle RideWithGPS when it attempts to outsmart you and pick a different route

Submitting/Joining Rides UX

Submitted by agrealish on Fri, 02/27/2015 - 5:53pm

Hi All!

I wanted to solicit the expert feedback of the community here.

I am working on a side project to connect people with partners for outdoor activities called Sesh. One of those activities is (you guessed it) cycling!!

For those intrepid souls, i invite you to take a look (http://seshitup.com) and perhaps do some A/B testing vs the NYCC ride system. Id love to hear what you like and dislike about both.

For those interested in comparing, I'm hosting a Nyack ride this Sun @8a

Best ride mapping/sharing site?

Submitted by agrealish on Fri, 02/27/2015 - 5:51pm

Tapping into the collective brain ...

what is the best site for mapping and sharing a ride? I love bikeroutetoaster but it appears you can no longer share routes (online) that you've created only download in select formats ...

A List of 42 Don'ts for Women on Bicycles in 1895

Submitted by edelk on Fri, 02/27/2015 - 9:36am

This list of negative rules for the women members of the Unique Cycling Club of Chicago in 1895 just ticked my bike shorts pink. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) I've highlighted my favorites but if written today the list would undobutedly include this prohibition: "Don't be an Iron Man. You're just a girl." devil (Hey: How about someone create a 2015 version of this list for all genders.) Disclaimer: This is the most sexist list I've ever seen but so ridiculous it's absolutely laughable.

(CANCELLED) Mahopac / Northern Smoke BBQ now is SUNDAY. Plus other changes

Submitted by BVan Nieuwenhoven on Thu, 02/26/2015 - 11:46am
NOTE: The listed ride has been cancelled. We will not be doing the listed plan. Please contact me if you are interested in alternate possibilities, though with the worsening weather I am likely to avoid riding altogether tomorrow.

CENTRAL PARK-roads etc

Submitted by AResnick on Wed, 02/25/2015 - 7:16pm

What woods these that I thought I knew

Yet now are ALL covered in snow

The police will not see me NOT stopping  here

As the park is ALL full of snow

The tourists think it queer

To see us ride our bikes amidst ALL the snow

Between The Boathouse and frozen lake

The nicest riding of the year!

The road conditions are a slight cover in places of salt; mostly dry roads.  The park is totally snow covered and beautiful-get your GO PRO out and film-I gotta get one
